Anyone tried the yoomi bottles?

Hi all, I am curently trying to get my 14 week Lo to take expressed milk via bottles in preparation for my return to work with little success. We've tried the Tommee Tippee CTN bottles and was thinking of trying the Yoomi ones but as they are quite expensive I would like to know if they are worth the money? Thanks

We got one of these as a present. We used it a few times when my DS was very little as it had a really slow flow which he go on with. It was a pain to "charge" the warming unit though as it has to be boiled for 20 minutes in a pan - it is not microwaveable. You cannot use the bottle without the warming unit in it as it leaks, but you obviously don't HAVE to "charge" it each time - you could just stick it in cold, so to speak, which is what we did a few times as DS really wasn't bothered at that time whether the milk was warm/room temp/cold!

DS didn't like CTN bottles either, but he did like the Mam ones - have you tried them? However, he went off all bottles altogether after a short time. He now takes fluids from a doidy cup when I'm not there to breastfeed - might be worth getting him started early on one of these?

In short, I wouldn't bother with a yoomi.

Thanks for the advice, Hadn't thought about alternatives to the bottle. At what age did you start your little one on a doidy cup?

Well, he was 7 weeks prem, but you're supposed to start weaning them at 6 months like "normal" babies, so not taking into account the prematureness IYSWIM - so we started giving him water in the doidy before his solids and giving it to him to play with as well (empty!) - so although he was 24 weeks old he was actually only 17 weeks old developmentally when we started giving it to him. At first he didn't really know what to do and just dribbled and burbled into it, but after a couple of weeks he was sipping from it and now is an enthusiastic slurper of water/formula/EBM! We are 7 weeks into weaning now. I guess if you're going back to work when your LO is 6 months, then you could start trying it anytime, really.

Thanks, as a first time mum I am constantly learning and the best advice always comes from the more experienced mummies like yourself. I will give it a go. Good luck with the weaning-thats my next challenge! Smile

Hi mamma1mia
I bought a yoomi after reading a pretty good review about it. Researched the website too just to get some more info (bcos I agree it is on the expensive side). Have to say it's been worth the money. My LO took to it straightaway (refused Avent)and it's grt for feeding outdoors (super quick) when I avoid breastfeeding. Mine hasn't leaked at all (yet)and I use it with and without the warmer now. Hope this helps.
