Gow and Gate and Aptimil Advertising

On Facebook today, I noticed that the adverts down the side were for Gow and Gate and Aptimil. They were both encouraging pregnant women to join their baby clubs by giving away a free toy cow (Cow and Gate) or polar bear (Aptimil).

It is obviously targeted advertising - I'm not currently pregnant, but do have a dd who is 5 months.

I was wondering whether this kind of promotional advertising violated the Breastmilk Subsitute Marketing Code (not sure if that's what it's actually called by you know what I mean).

I am going to start a protest outside the Cow & Gate factory till they send me a gate.

Poor Danone and Nestle, they really are all alone out there with no-one to defend them and really only wanting the best for babies.

It isn't as though they are huge multinational corporations whose reason for existing is to make money or anything...

C&G have somehow gotten my address, I have no idea how as I tend to avoid filling in forms but they know how old DS2 is and have just sent me a nice little card talking about the wonders of their 6mth+ formula follow on milk. Fuckers.

MoonFaceMama · 20/09/2010 18:39

LeonieDelt I bet you wouldn't be anti FF if you saw how much pus they got out of my boob! And it filled back up again, and got syringed out again about 8 times before they operated: 3 times. Formula saved my rotting breast... :o

MoonFaceMama · 20/09/2010 19:20

panzee did you go for the nipple or the cuddly cow? Grin

Everyone gets so angry about everything! so funny! but yes moonface, right on- advertising is very dangerous and it is wrong that BF is seen as not normal. BFing my son on a long-haul flight recently, heard a little girl aged about 5 say to her mum 'err whats she doing...that's disgusting!' I know kids say this sort of stuff which is why they are so funny Smile but it's sad in this case, because had I been bottle feeding him I doubt she would have said anything.

MoonFaceMama · 20/09/2010 19:44

Rolsgirl that is very sad imo.

Yes it does get a bit heated on here doesn't it. I can understand as they are very important and hugely emotive issues. But it's all been a bit mad lately hasn't it. I think that's why i had a surreal turn just then. Confused Grin Confused
