I've been BF for nearly a year and not had a proper cold, only the beginnings of one. And that's despite having a hellish first 6 months with little sleep and poor eating habits. Although I only get one a year anyway so not sure if it's the BF!

not bad thanks Smile

I had 3 colds in the first 3 months (January babY), and none since (DS is 8.5 months now) - I'd usually have had at least one by now I reckon.

AngelDog · 17/09/2010 20:22

I think my first 3 were linked to chronic sleep deprivation, mind.

I have just stopped bfing dd (3.4). Haven't had more than a mild sniffle for 3 years. Have a cold right now, woke up this morning with it and had forgotten what it feels like.

I mentioned it to dh a couple of months ago. BFing does seem to prevent colds for me.

Hello Angel! I was lurking on an EC thread and saw you on there. Thinking of joining in although DS is nearly 1 now so maybe too old??

Sorry for the hijack nicky, glad to hear things are better

nickytwotimes · 17/09/2010 20:31

no probs!

I've noticed this too - I've not had a proper cold since bf DD (10 months). And I have felt rather run-down (sleep-deprived?) at times. I think my body doesn't let me catch a cold as it knows I have enough on my plate as it is! :)

AngelDog · 17/09/2010 21:22

Iggly, it's worth a try at least I reckon. DS enjoys the fun - we treat it mainly as 'potty play' rather than anything too serious. If nothing else, it gets him used to sitting on something. :)

Igglybuff · 17/09/2010 21:27

I'll try it then!

ClimberChick · 18/09/2010 02:20

I've not had a cold either, even with moving countries and being exposed to foreign germs. Loving it while it lasts.

nickytwotimes · 18/09/2010 05:55

It's motivation enough to bf, as far as I am concerned!
I have slight touch of something but nowhere near as bad as usual and I am SO sleep deprived.

I don't get many colds generally, but i'm sure i would have had something by now, especially considering the sleep deprivation etc. As it is i've had one slight sniffle. At one (different) point ds had a cold for about a week but i had no sign of it.It didn't really bother him any way. Just produced a lot of snot

[hijack... Iggly, we do ec. There is a us "late starters" yahoo group i believe. Also the born ready forum is great (and uk). Crazy to think of one as being "late"! Def worth a go though i reckon. Smile Sorry for hijack!]

ClimberChick · 21/09/2010 05:34

spoke to soon

chegggersplayspop · 21/09/2010 06:13

Ive been bf for so bloody long now I don't know whether I have or not! My dh has had some stinkers recently which I have avoided, much to my amusement as he is always going on about how much healthier he his with his diet and exercise regime. I can't remember being ill much though

nickytwotimes · 21/09/2010 06:37

me too, CLimber!
Been staving it off all last week, woke with snotty nose/bad throat this morning. Hmm

Bummer!

(off to google what meds are safe while bfing)

sending balm tissues and paracetamol your way. I'm guessing whiskey is out?

nickytwotimes · 22/09/2010 07:31

2 am?!

Mind you, we've had a long night...wee guy really miserable with the cold.

No, I'd be willing to take the whisky - might knock us both out...

Smile

hope you are better soon.
