Help! Blood in 11 week old's mouth when breast feeding

I was feeding my 11 week old DS this morning when he started crying hysterically and when he pulled away his mouth was full of bright red blood. When I looked in his mouth I couldn't see a cut and I felt his gums and a tooth hadn't come through or that I could see. When he'd calmed down he resumed feeding and the milk that came out of my nipple was the normal white colour. When he was sick after the feed it was the normal milky colour with a bit of rusty colour in it from the blood that had been in his mouth. I'm really puzzled where the blood came from. I haven't had any problems breastfeeding and my niplles are fine. Could the blood have come from me or could he have bitten his tongue? Should I take him to the GP? He seems ok in himself.

I once found blood in my DS month after BFing but it was due to my nipples bleeding, It wasn't noticable on the nipple itself but the sucking was drawing it out. I'm not sure what any other explanation might be. Has it happened since? If you are worried I would take him to the GP. I'm sure it can't be anything too serious if he calmed down quite quickly but it will reassure you to check it out.
