Period returning at 4 weeks postpartum?

I had DS2 four weeks ago. My lochia stopped within 2 weeks - followed the normal pattern of becoming lighter and changing colour. It stopped within this time with both DS1 and DD.

On Sunday (so about 3.5 weeks postpartum) I started bleeding again. It is bright red and getting heavier and today has had a number of very small clots in it.

I am not in any pain but feel a bit tender this evening. Could it really be a period? I am exclusively breastfeeding and DS feeds virtually all day and then 3 hourly at night.

Forgot to say that periods didnt come back until 9 months with the other two (also EBF).

It could be your period - I got mine at 6 weeks despite breast feeding - I have gynae issues with heavy bleeding anyway, so never actually stopped but the lochia had lightened off and then at 6 weeks, got heavier again like a period, saw doc, that was his conclusion too and then it went into 4 weekly pattern, so must have been. Therefore IMO it could be, but would ring GP tomorrow and just ask. Hormone levels control it, so it could just be that they have kicked in quicker this time? Do you usually get tender tummy with your period?

Go to gp to check not infection or something.

I also got mine about 9 weeks post partum even though I ebf, but 3.5 weeks does seem very early, so just get it checked out to be on the safe side.

Mine did with DS1, despite exc BF, after 5 weeks and then v regular.

With DD and DS2 I had what I thought was period returning after 6 weeks (4-5 days bleeding) after but then nothing until DD was 6m (still bf) and DS 8m (also still bf).

I should add that locchia stopped after about 10 days with all 3 and I have never had painful/heavy periods before or after DC's.

My GP was surprised when I told her about periods returning so quickly after DS1, said it was v unusual when bf - so much so that she had never heard of it , but she wasn't worried about it, said I must just be unlucky.

Thank you - it seems lighter again now so will keep an eye on it and then see GP. I usually get cramps with a period but nothing here.

It may just be lochia - mine was on and off for 6 weeks. Didn't get my actual period til last week - just shy of 10mo.

With my 2nd I bled for first 2 weeks then stopped for a week then started again for another couple of weeks. Had a C-Section and put it down to doing too much. Did not get my first PPAF until about 8mths when he was feeding less as solids had started.
