Extreme breast feeding (funny places you've fed) light hearted thread

I've bf in some horrid and also funny places and situations over the time I fed DS and now DD.

BF DD sitting on damp sand on a windy beach in Norfolk, DS sitting on my lap to keep dry, about 4 feet from the sea as the tide started coming in very quickly just as she latched on. DH stood back and laughed and then took a photo! Angry

Couldn't find anywhere to bf very hungry, screaming DS in a shopping mall so ended up feeding him standing up, behind the door in a baby change loo (no lock on door, no seat, right opposite mens loo.) Sad

In an indian restaurant full of disapproving older couples immediately after DH helpfully says "This would be an awful audience to bf in front of." (cue DD promptly waking up and screaming as loudly as possible). The restaurant went deadly quiet and all eyes were on me as I shoved DD under a cover to try to feed her discreetly whilst she gulped down milk as if thru an amplifier and DS pats her on the head saying "Hello Cake's DD" throughout the feed. Blush

Can you trump these? Grin

On holiday in switzerland I fed my daugher in a cable car, and on a snow covered bench at 2000 m/ 7000 ft altitude. It was a bit brassic, as they say up north.

London buses were also a regular cue for my DD to start rooting, as were packed commuter trains.

GruffaloMama · 15/09/2010 22:06

also v jealous of the Paul Weller one...

In a cathedral - the helper ladies insisted on finding me my own chapel as I'd checked it was okay because I didn't want anyone to get offended (and yes, I know they shouldn't - and they didn't). Chair wasn't comfy but it was very mellow and inspiring! V madonna and child...

sat on the floor of a train (I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO-ONE GAVE ME A SEAT!!! Angry)

Changebagsandgladrags · 15/09/2010 22:08

Front row of the 'starting school talk' given by DS1's new headmaster (was feeding DS2)

At the till in Tesco

WickedWitchSouthWest · 15/09/2010 22:22

Some friends of ours got married at Anfield and dd was only 4 weeks old so I was still a bit of a novice and was wearing unsuitable dress so one of the staff found me a room to use for feeding and changing nappies - the boardroom! DH is a lifelong Liverpool supporter and couldn't believe his luck getting to hang out in the boardroom, even if it was to change a pooey nappy Grin

eaglewings · 15/09/2010 22:31

Sitting in the Bishops chair in the cathedral during a rehursal taking the role of the Bishop and 'Ordaining' 10 priests while all the tourists walked past.

Was always one to feed wherever we were until the babies could start walking, had a great sling so still had both hands free so often i don't think people knew. Did find it difficult to know what to do when people peered inside the sling and started stroking the babies head..

ifyourmotheraskedyou · 15/09/2010 22:43

At the top of the London Eye. DD2 was oblivious to the splendid view, but DD1 and I were determined to make the most of it so there was no way I was going to sit discreetly down in the middle of the pod. Luckily DD2 was a quick feeder and had finished by the time we got to the point where a camera takes your photo while you're standing looking out of the pod!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 15/09/2010 22:49

I was quite chuffed with feeding dd on the Safari Skytrain at Chessington a few weeks back. Smile

MissMarjoribanks · 15/09/2010 23:09

At my sister's wedding reception - I had to unzip my bridesmaid's dress at the side and hoik a boob out to do it - I wasn't wearing a bra, just breast pads. My aunt took a photo thinking it was a nice shot of DS, DH and I and you somehow can't tell.

On the beach at Brixham.

Twice on Lake Windermere - once on a cruiser (old lady - 'he's enjoying that' Grin) and once on a yacht.

Numerous parks, cafes, etc - I am really not adverse to public feeding. I've never had any grief.

BuongiornoPrincipessa · 15/09/2010 23:17

Walking around a watermill in Suffolk (where constable painted his famous painting, but can't be bothered to google it) with 10 wk old dd in a moby sling -which is not easy with my ginormous boobs, plus am not at all practised in the art of standing up feeding- while my parents were loudly argueing with each other about whether I should sit on a grassy verge and feed or go back to the tea room. She had finished well before my parents!

RobynLou · 15/09/2010 23:32

In the bar at our wedding reception whilst drinking a rather strong cocktail Blush

whilst painting a stage set while the lighting designer was trying out effects, so lots of dramatic lighting!

and my other theatrical one, whilst walking around rails of clothes choosing costumes at a costume hire store.

on the tube/bus/train/ferry/walking down the street

mamas12 · 15/09/2010 23:39

During the wedding speeches of the girl I designed and made her gown, where her new dh tried to present me with a bouquet and people 'ordering' me to go on, go get your lovely flowers.

No one realised I was feeding oh so discreetly, (I was so proud she was only 10 days then) Until the penny dropped with some on our table and then the h got embarressed and then I pulled her off making that pop sound - oh god It was such a mess and confusion and to top it all it was of course all captured on video.
My first bf in pulic - it didn't put me off I bf for 6 months then.

mamas12 · 15/09/2010 23:39

btw kudos PAUL WELLER!

feetheart · 15/09/2010 23:45

Some great ones

On a bouncy castle! Nice and quiet then kids came back - DS didn't bat an eye and hasn't stopped bouncing everywhere since (is now 4.10) :)

MumNWLondon · 16/09/2010 10:57

I am always happy to BF in public, but just couldn't in front of my boss. Most extreme was me leaning into car seat in travelling car Shock not recommended but he was screaming and we just couldn't stop.

kveta · 16/09/2010 11:31

at my wedding - dress was very fitted and tight, and DS was very grumpy and noisy, so I took us off to a quiet room and somehow hoiked my boob out of the very tight strapless bra and dress and over the top of the bodice-bit - was bloody painful! quietened him down a wee bit though.

I fed him in the town square in Brno (Czech Republic 2nd biggest city) with my grandma tutting furiously the whole time and making pointed comments ("he'll still be feeding when he goes to university kveta!" "it's disgusting that you're still feeding a toddler").

I fed him during a meeting with my boss, who very calmly looked elsewhere :o (he's the best boss I've ever had! has been so flexible with my return to work etc)

DS has also been fed in laybys and at service stations from London - Brno - best was one German one where we got an audience of children who all stood round us pointing at DS/my boob. NO idea what they where muttering about, but he had a feed and all was well :)

Last night I fed him whilst cooking Blush - not recommended with a heavy toddler, but he needed it and the potatoes were boiling over!

I'll have managed 1 year of bfing next sunday, so quite chuffed :o

Bumperlicious · 16/09/2010 11:43

While doing a seminar to prepare for a firewalk (walking on hot coals). In fairness the event was a charity event to raise money for the county breastfeeding support network so it was entirely appropriate Grin

Not sure if they would have let me feed her during the firewalk though Grin

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 16/09/2010 11:48

I feed everywhere - beaches, church, supermarkets, the other day in the school reception surrounded by parents waiting for kids BlushGrin, in the middle of sports fields when DH is doing is training (he trains with an army PTI who didn't know where to look!)

THe most extreme was leaning over his carseat as we were stuck on motorway!

mrsgordonfreeman · 16/09/2010 13:07

In Virgin Atlantic Upper Class, in front of Willem Dafoe.

prettybird · 16/09/2010 13:20

Not breast fed per se, but I have expressed on ski slopes and once, in bad weather, in the middle of a busy mountain restuarant.

Don't think anyone realised what I was dong as I sort of used my ski jacket to shield me and bent over the table, so all the "activity" Wink was going on under the table. Grin

sethstarkaddersmum · 16/09/2010 13:27

Do we need to start a 'famous people in front of whom you have breastfed' thread?

AngryPixie · 16/09/2010 13:29

I've bf at my husbands MSc graduation ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall, hidden under a flight of stairs at a shopping mall (first dc - never hid myself away again)
in the staff room at school, on a windy Brighton beach, anywhere really & never had a horrid look.

I've also 'pumped & dumped' in the toilets at Waterloo station Grin

AngryPixie · 16/09/2010 13:30

EEK! Just realised pumped & dumped takes on a whole new meaning when you're in a toilet, ahem I expressed and threw the milk away down the sink!!! Blush

kveta · 16/09/2010 13:35

ha ha angrypixie! :o

Carikube · 16/09/2010 13:37

I've done it at a football match and also an England v Australia cricket match (DH wasn't too impressed)...

spiggy · 16/09/2010 16:51

In the middle of an assessment to see if I would be promoted. It was an all day event, the other end of the country and DS was 5 months so he had to come with me. I got the job Grin

On an easyjet flight where every other passenger was part of a stag do. Very nice chaps, didn't bat an eyelid when I started feeding.
