please please can somebody help me.
i have been bf my premie (6 weeks early now 7 weeks old) and have had constant problems.
ive been to the docs so many times and ended up in the emergency room with the pain, but i'm not impressed with my doctors knowledge and not sure the diagnosis is right. im worried i'll be in pain for weeks still, and even that things will get worse. my baby cries for most of the day and im worried he is suffering because of this too.
latch is probably the original problem i imagine.

m symptoms at the moment are:
shooting pains in right nipple after and inbetween feeds
nipples go hard and white after feeds
baby retches after feeds and cries
when diagnosed with mastitis an put on antibiotics, and told to express from right breast, nipple soreness improved lots and pain almost gone for 2 days
ive twice had a blister in the centre of my right nipple, now turned into a cracked right nipple
baby has creamy looking gums in the back of his mouth but not on cheeks i dont think (hard to see)
i have been using lansinoh religiously
baby was in neonatal for 12 days so i was obsessed with using pump to bring in the milk, maybe i overdid it??
now i have too much milk, from using just one breast to feed him and expressing the other....

i dont want to give up, but this is getting me down,, i am exhausted and sometimes wake up from the pain.
i live in madrid and there is limited support. ive found a lactation consultant im seeing tmrw, and i have my fingers crossed.

any advice welcome.

You poor thing!

Sounds as though you both have thrush. Someone with more knowledge will pop along soon to give you some more advice, but you definitely both need to get treated asap so that you can be more comfortable.

Poor, poor you. Think you have done a fantastic job in getting this far.

Do you think this sounds like what is happening?

Hope it goes well with the Lactation Consultant tomorrow.

It sounds as if there are two problems.

Firstly, the nipple blanching caused by a latch that's not quite right. This can ultimately cause mastitis too, because the breast won't be drained properly. The best way to fix this is to get in-person help as quickly as possible.

The second problem may be that you have thrush. That is common after taking antibiotics and would explain the pain in the breast and cracks that won't heal, also a possible cause of the whiteness in your LO's mouth but this can also be milk residue.

This info will help you figure out if it's definitely thrush:

If it is, this leaflet will help you get the right medicine:

Thank you all so much, i did have a feeling it was thrush, but my doc said no when i suggested it.

I'm pinning my hopes on this lactation consultant, and if all else fails i'll fly to the uk for help!

Really hope you don't have to resort to flying back to the uk. Hope it goes well today.

La Leche League seem to have a Spanish website if that helps.
