Pooing all day - is this normal?

Hello

Sorry this isnt the most charming enquiry but I hope someone will respond!

DS is 2 months old. He is BF'd (from breast only) on demand and is generally pretty hungry. He has good size and weight gain. Recently he has been going without a poo for up to 7 days at a time - the midwife is happy with this and he usually goes every 3 days. Today he has pooed around 5 times, a lot. In fact this morning it totally swamped nappy and pjamas.

He is not in pain, not behaving any differently just every couple of hours he has pooed copiously and with force.

Is this normal? Is this indicative of a problem? He is my 1st baby so thats why I'm not sure about this. Its probably nothing but I thought someone might reassure me (or tell me to get him to the doctor)

Thanks :)

I was going to say my bf DS pooed all day, but that was normal for him, not a one-off. Have you eaten anything unusual recently? Is it a normal colour?

jemjabella · 13/09/2010 20:43

It is normal :) My DD would go up to 2 weeks before pooping and them some weeks poop constantly.

RudeEnglishLady · 13/09/2010 20:44

Hi Bella

He used to poo all day when he was 2,3,4 weeks but he really settled down.

The colour is completely normal and there are no 'irregularities' in the poo. It smells normal... sorry this is gross!

I havent eaten anything unusual, any processed stuff or anything prepared in a restaurant. By that I mean I know exactly what I've eaten and how its been prepared.

Hi Jemjabella

Yeah, I thought it was okay because of lack of pain etc. Good to hear your experience that pooing varies.

as long as he's happy. dd1 managed to shoot her poo clear across the bathroom.

Yeah, completely normal IMO. Just when you think you know their routine, they go and change it. As long as he seems happy and is not unwell in other ways (e.g no vomiting) then don't worry.

:) at Warthog

I learned the hard way to stand to one side when I change him. Just glad I have tiles on the bathroom floor. And walls. :(
