Well done so far from me too! I had a csection and my milk didn't come in until day 8 - nightmare and DS was 9lb 10oz when born (but lost some that first week). After day three we fed him a little formula after feeds from a small tube taped to my boob with a syringe on the end (less complicated than it sounds). Anyway - what I'm trying to say (rambling) is that if it takes a while you can get some help from a BF advisor on how to get through until your milk comes in. It sounds like yours might be on the way though. Fingers crossed!

FrameyMcFrame · 08/09/2010 17:57

I think your milk will come in very soon.
I was on my last legs and sending DP round to buy formula when mine came in (day 3).
It's a really hard time, hang in there!

FrameyMcFrame · 08/09/2010 18:22

By the way, I'm really glad I waited and didn't give in!

Monkeytoo · 09/09/2010 00:25

I definitely think it's fine to wait in that three day period but if it takes longer for you I would get some advice from a breastfeeding advisor. My LO got dehydrated on day four and five so we had to use a little formula but the way you go about it can make a big difference (tube taped to finger / boob) for instance vs. bottle. Also they can give you advice on a pumping routine to encourage it in. I'm sure you won't need all this but just putting it in case someone else in a similar situation reads this!

glad to hear you're doing ok porcamiseria, bet it will be there the morning.
I remember getting out of bed and feeling a drip drip on to my feet and being amazed and very glad with DC1!

crikeybadger · 09/09/2010 18:34

glad you're hanging in there porca- sounds like it won't be long now!

Please keep an eye on your LOs nappies, particularly that they are wet. I was determined not to give formula, followed all the advice about not giving in, it not being what they need and DD ended up in hospital being fed down a gastro-nasal tube, ultimately losing 15% of her birth weight Sad My milk eventually came in on day 6 and even then my supply took a long time to establish. Colostrum and fresh air could not sustain her until then. She weed twice in 4 days.

I'm sure you'll both be fine and you're milk is just around the corner but mums must remember that sometimes LOs do need the help of formula in the beginning (on advice of HCPs). You can still go on to successfully BF - I saw a BF counsellor and once my supply was up and running (after about 2-3 weeks) DD was EBF for 6 months. But if formula is necessary don't feel bad. I wish I'd done it earlier and saved her from being readmitted to hospital.

crikeybadger · 09/09/2010 20:08

You're on day 3 now porca right?

Have you had any advice/concerns from your mw?

Hooray, that's great! Hope he continues to sleep well. Mine's sleeping pretty well so far, but today she was superglued to my boobs from 6am until now, apart from a long nap in the middle, and my poor dd1 is a bit neglected to say the least. Thankfully we've had some visitors to entertain her. Do you have any toddlers to entertain at the same time porca?

porcamiseria · 12/09/2010 02:33

i have 2 year old, fortunately his dad is looking after him mostly

tonight he has also been unsettled and windy its now 2am, and to top it off neighbours 2 kids now screaming!!!!! plus after 4 hours of the wind me and dp had massive row

wind.......why!!!!!

how old is your newbie petisa

Hope you finally got some sleep last night, or were able to catch up a bit today. Dd2 is 3 weeks old on Tuesday, it's going soo fast!

I have a 2.4 year old dd1 too, dp is looking after her a lot, but he's self-employed and has had to go back to work, so I've been finding visitors very useful for entertaining dd1 and holding the baby. You're not the only ones rowing, we've been rowing too, mostly due to money worries - we might have to move v soon and I might have to go back to my mum's for a while

Is your 2 year old jealous? Mine is, especially of nappy changes, me bf all the time, and her buggy being changed back into a pram for dd2's downstairs bed. She was v stressed and sad for the first week or so, as well as being v excited, but she's much more settled now. I'm a SAHM and dd1 has been with me every day since she was born, and so it's been a big wrench for us both. No-one prepared me for how upset I'd be about the changes - I miss her soo much and the wonderful days when it was just the two of us. I've cried so much about it, it's ridiculous! I can't wait till things settle a bit and we can get into some kind of routine and go to the park together again!

At least you know your neighbours will be understanding when yours scream! Wink Can you maybe help each other out or are their dc older? Hope the wind sorts itself out sooner rather than later, they are windy little things in the early months, aren't they. Dd2 is on and off the boob, on and off and fussing for ages, drives me mad!

Whoops, I've written you a novel! Blush Hope all is going well. x

porcamiseria · 12/09/2010 21:37

well congratulations to you too!

he settled at 4am, then we on/off slept till 11.30am, he is a night owl!!! bummer. The sleep really does cloud an otherwise happy time

thank GOD DP is used to looking after DS1 as he is SAHD, but I feel same way, today baby and DP napped and we managed a quick trip to the park. I am really going to have to nurture DS1 alot more in the weeks to come

i take my hat off to you handling both on your own. soon baby will have slightly more regular naps and you can then have some quality time with the bigger one

baby sleeoing but bet you the minute I lie down.....wakey wakey!
