Hiya - new to this, my first post!
I want to Breastfeed predominantly, but have the Haberman feeder to use for one feed in the evening (as seen on Baby Whisperer).
I can't seem to find out what breast pump is compatible with the Habermen feed (now called SpecialNeeds). I believe the Haberman brand is now owned by Medela - but can't find anywhere that says specially whether Medela pumps are compatible with this feeder.
Also would welcome any suggestions for sterilisers for the haberman too if anyone has any!

Can yuo not just pump and then fill the Haberman feeder with the EBM?

I used to regualry freeze EBM in different containers to the bottle ds was then fed from (combining two small bottles for example - or using the special plastic bags for storage)

i agree it doesn't really matter. buy the breastpump you want and then pour the milk into the feeder you want.

prettybird is spot on

I pumped with an Ameda Lacataline, poured into Axifeed bottles to freeze, then dd drank it from a TT Closer to Nature

I really recommend the Lactaline btw

hope all is ok if you're needing to supplement - are you getting good adsvice from mws / bfcs?

thanks ladies - am ahead of myself as only 34 weeks - but have a nearly new sale coming up and my friends both grabbed the pumps they had intended to buy full price at other sales, so I wanted to figure out ahead of time which one I wanted/ was compatible with haberman and keep my eye out at the next two sales in the next few weeks.
So fingers crossed all goes smoothly once they're here!!

um, if you are only 34wks why are you so wedded to the Haberman, or indeed to expressing at all?

I know yo have seen TBW on tv but please read some other books too - some of her advice re bf is a bit dubious to say the least.

And you may find (as I did) that rather than expressing, sterilising, introducing a bottle etc to try to involve dh in feeding, you could make him (eg) responsible for bathtime so he gets quality bonding time with the baby and you get time off but without the faff factor.

Approach with an open mind Smile.

Hi,

The Medela pump is copatible with the Haberman. That's what I used as my little one had a cleft palate ( not that he actually drank anything. Been tube fed now for alost all of his 5 and a half years!!)

Good luck and hope you don't need the Haberman forany medical reason. I think it could be quite uncomfortable for LO and make hi/her gag as the nipple is VERY long and goes to the back of the throat.

Good luck

Sharon

Thanks Mrs Badger - appreciate it. not wedded to it - just heard about it, and thought I'd give it a go as it seemed to make sense to me. got to start somewhere! Like you said, ideally I'd like to BF exclusively - but with several friends just had babies who'd thought the same they've all since rushed out in the first few weeks and got bottles/sterilisers, etc... for different reasons so thought I'd have one bottle at home on hand just incase... And so many have just chosen 'the cheapeast' and now have colicy babies...
Have read a few books - but not really one for following to the word - esp GFord as it seems like a military routine and I definately disagree with a lot of what I have read.
Bath time option a good suggestion though - thank you very much.

oh GFord's bf advice is even worse than TBW's...
Try Bestfeeding or the (hideously named imo) Womanly Art of Breastfeeding.
Have you a baby cafe you can pop into before the birth so you can get to know your local bfcs? or done/doing an NCT course?

MrsH2010 · 13/09/2010 10:28

Don't have a 'cafe' that I know of, but am on the NCT course in a few weeks time that has a designated BF evening course. Glad you said that about GFords - the only people i know locally with babies swear by her, so I was lent the book. After reading a few bits I had to put it in a drawer in another room it annoyed me so much I didn't want to see it! Will look up your book suggestion - but did find another book which I'm enjoying (and who ridiculous GF suggestions - which I'm also enjoying!)called 'The Food of Love: the formula to breastfeeding' - it's great, lighthearted approach and seesm more realistic.
thanks again - your help is really appreciated.
