How does your dc actually eat a bottle?

Ok, I'm asking because with my little fruitcake I'm never seen much of 'normal'.

People keep saying their dc eats 7/8oz. Is this down in one? Slowly eaten with a few burps in between? Big pauses in the middle? My dc has recently started to eat these amounts, he'll down 3.5oz in a minute flat, stop, burp, play for 45 minute-ish then have the other 3oz in a matter of minutes. He does NOT like to be interupted when guzzling, the red face of rage will switch on if the teat is removed before he's done! Sometimes an hour in between halves of a feed. It's bordering on two separate feeds of 3 oz. Is this normal? What do you mean by a 'feed'. Todays morning feed went 6.45-3 oz, 7.30-3oz, 8 -3.5oz. He'll then have a long pause to the next feed, which is normally only a two part feed over an hour.

I'm just interested, can tiny babies eat that much in one go?

By the way I'm not looking to change his eating habits, as long as he bloody eats I don't care HOW he eats.

DD (6mo) is a snacker rather than a down-in-oner.

She rarely takes much at all when she's awake (she's a very inquisitive girl, eating takes up valuable nosyingtime) maybe 1 or 2 oz, but then when she sleeps she might take another 5-6oz. She might only take another 3oz. We're on 6 x 8oz bottles a day, of which she'll usually leave 1 or 2 oz (and occasionally she'll leave nothing).

I know what you mean about it being two separate feeds.

DH panics 'ooh she's not taking a full bottle' so I have to point out that if she was still BF then we'd not see how much she was eating and would just accept that when she was full she'd stop eating, and when she was hungry she'd eat. He mentioned it to the HV and she just said that babies are very good at regulating their appetite, clearly DD just isn't a big eater. Not sure who she gets that from though Grin
