Problems changing from breast to bottle

Help!!
I've been breastfeeding my son for 6 months and now want to change to bottle feeding. He's had the odd bottle in the past and been fine, used Cow and Gate formula and closer to nature bottles. Now he is refusing point blank to take a bottle and screams himself stupid!! I have used Aptamil, as the two formula's look fairly smiliar just different boxes, even made in the same factory!

Any advice on how i can overcome this battle? My husband has tried with him too and gets the same result.

Please help as we're off to see Peter Kay soon and need to leave him with my mum for a weekend!!! xx

Have you tried giving him a bottle of expressed breastmilk? Maybe it's the formula, not bottles per se.

I haven't tried that, but will i then get a problem when i introduce formula?

Have u tried a teat with a different flow? DS took a couple of bottles just after hospital, and then a month or so later we tried to give him a bottle again and he refused. We thought it might have been the formula, but found that switching to the next teat up helped.

I had this problem with dd. In fact she wouldn't take a bottle until she was 10.5 months - even though she was bottle fed expressed milk from birth to 10 weeks of age. If your baby accepted cow+gate formula before, maybe you could try that again. To save money, buy the ready made cartons. Also, could you try a different teat/bottle?
Also, as suggested, try ebm. I know you want to change over to formula but if your lo will take ebm, you can gradually mix it with formula. My dd suddenly started to accept a bottle at 10.5 months after about 4 months of dh and I battling with her. Tried every teat/bottle combination going (I reckon) and bm/formula........and she eventually decided she'd have cow+gate first milk (ready made carton)in a Nuk bottle. However, I'd tried them before without success. Stubborn things babies Grin

Thanks for all your advice, I'm using no.3 teats which is recommended for 6ms upward but may get the next one down just incase it's coming out too fast for him. Will try cartons though, thanks for that tip!
Just off to hook myself up to the milking machine and express some, see if that works!!

Thanks ladies you've been great! xx :)

Oh and another hot tip (no pun intended!) is to try different temperature milk. My dd likes it really hot - much hotter than you'd think. Apparently breast milk is blood temperature which is actually hot rather than warm. I got that tip from another mner. Equally, some babies seem to like the milk cold from the fridge or room temperature.

Presumably you want to switch to formula feeding then, not just bottle feeding? The one doesn't have to mean the other Smile
