hi all,

my DS is 3 months old now and has always been BF. His growth is good (almost 13lbs now)and he feeds well for about 10 minutes a time. My milk supply is abundant.

However, he is now wanting to feed every 2 hours most of the day and is now waking in the night for feeds again after starting to sleep from 8pm till 6am at around 2 months.

I'm not worried as such, but I am exhausted, with 2 other children to look after and I don't really know what to do to try and get him to go a bit longer or into a routine. He just gets really really upset if i don't feed him when he wants and then doesn't feed very well.

any idea's?

My DD2 is the same age and is having a huge growth spurt at the moment, she is feeding every 2hours in the day and having a huge 2 hour cluster feed at 8pm and feeding every half hour when she wakes in the morning for 2 hours.

3 months was a huge growth spurt for my DS too - he had been up only once or twice a night for a few weeks so was a bit of a shock.

Would it be easier to just feed him when he 'asks' and hope the growth spurt goes past quicker? Hopefully the more you feed the more your supply will catch up with him...Hopefully experts will advise :)

Hope you get on ok, it is hard work being pinned down by a hungry wee baby - I didn't plan ahead enough to get a sling or something. He is my first as well so no others to look after.

well' it's always nice to know you're not alone! I'm feeding when he asks, as far as possible. My toddler is very unimpressed with the amount of time i spend feeding him though. And she has been up in the night this weekend and up early too. I guess it's time for the 'it will pass' mantra.

DD (14.5 weeks) started another growth spurt at 11.5 weeks and started to feed every 2 hours day and night. I'm told growth spurts should last no longer than a week. DD's growth spurt lasted 2.5 weeks - sorry.

I coped by just deciding feeding every 1-2 hours was the new routine and offering a feed as often as possible. She didn't start cluster feeding again thankfully.

It stopped just at the point where I thought I was losing the plot and was simply missing her cues and confusing tiredness and hungriness. About a week ago she started having longer naps in the day time and spacing her feeds to about 2.5-3 hours. And in the night she wakes a lot (because the growth spurt unsettled her) but it is often possible to settle her with a dummy, rather than pick her up and feed her.
