How much does your bottlefed newborn eat?

Just wondering, because I was still bf'ing at this stage with DS1 - but DS2 is bottlefeeding and seems to be a complete milk monster. He's 7 days old and weighed 8lb 1oz at birth. Breastfed until 4 days old, then bottle since then. Anyway, he's having 3oz feeds, which he always either finishes or very nearly finishes. He's demanding feeds every 2-3 hours, sometimes even a bit more, so I reckon he's having at least 10 feeds a day, possibly 12. The guide on the Aptamil box says that a baby of his age/weight should only be having six 3oz feeds a day! He's clearly thriving, because he was back at his birth weight at his 5 day check, but I'm worried that I'm raising a blimp. His signals seem very clear, though - he knows when he's hungry! Just curious about how much other babies are eating.

ignore the box. i dont know anyone who's baby fit those guidelines in the early days.

I think around 10 feeds a day for a 1 week old is about right. 3 oz is good. Really he cant overeat at his age. He will take as much as he needs and not a drop more. I know trying to get my DD to take an extra ounce because i think she needs it is an impossible task.

So relax and enjoy your little one. Smile
