Damaged breasts - what to do?

I have just stopped breastfeeding - DD is now 6months - and I was very lucky that everything went more or less smoothly. I have one remaining problem though. The double electric breast pump seems to have left large areas of dry, red skin around my nipples that have not faded even though it is over a month since I last expressed. Does anyone have any advice about how I can improve this? They are also very itchy.

Have you tried something like lansinoh or vaseline? You need to keep the dry areas covered with something like that to stop them drying out - the dryer they get, the more itchy they are and the longer it'll take to improve.

If you've tried that and it doesn't work, I'd see your GP as you may have an infection (thrush?)
