DD is nearly 16 months now and still loves a breastfeed, especially at night for going to sleep. I, however, am ready to pack it in. If I am not present she is fine to go without, but if I am around she positively scrambles to get in about it, and is now starting to ask for "booby" (Don't konw where she got that expression, I would never use that term. I am afraid that asking for it in public is a step too far for me... I planned to feed to about 10/11 months and have kind of hoped she would self wean eventually but no sign of that.

With older DS we stopped at 13 months without too much trouble. He happily accepted a bottle at bedtime instead. DD has the bottle, but then still wants me and won't let me settle her without. Tried having DP settle her, but it only works if I am out of the building.

Any ideas ofthings to try ?

How many times a day does DD feed?
In my experience, it was easy to stop the bedtime feed if the other feeds had stopped first.
I found that the most important thing was allowing the child to realise that he/she no longer needed to BF.
I replaced feeds with other things; eg a snack when hungry, a cuddle when tired, a game when bored, a drink when thirsty etc.
It didn't take my DCs too long to realise that they didn't need to feed during the day.
I took out the early morning feed next, replacing it with a cup of milk, a cuddle and a prompt breakfast.
By the time I'd done all this, they had realised that they didn't actually need to feed at all. DD rejected BF at bedtime before I was actually prepared for it and DS was pretty similar.
Again, it was replaced with a cup of milk, a cuddle, a book and some mummy time.
It doesn't have to be a nightmare.
Good luck!
