I'm in breastfeeding hell - thrush, 3 week old baby, vasospasms

I'm just looking for some hope I guess...

Spotted thrush in ds2 mouth when he was just 2 days old. Got both of us treated immediately, sorted latch and went on our merry way.

But in my sleep deprived state I stopped treating myself too soon and the thrush is back with a vengeance. Added bonus of vasospasms between feeds too, do it's all joy joy joy

Can't stop crying this morning. Feel utterly defeated (went through all ofthis with ds1)

Going to go to beg for fluconazole. Wish me luck...

Awww....big hugs!!!

Its not easy, when my son was 11 weeks they said he had thrush, went through treatment, cream made him spew everytime (also at night all over bedsheets) only to be told one week later it was teething growth, not thrush.DOH!

Hang in there, it gets easier!!!

xxxxxxxx

Hello there,

well just wanted to send my support. You are not alone and you will get through this.

I had a terrible start in breastfeeding. It was very very painful (I had at least a daily cry) and then I had a suspected thrush. I said "suspected" because the lactation consultant, HV and midwife were saying so...while GPs where denaying it.
I begged for fluconazole...but they did not give me.

Ask for a boobs' swab to be taken to the lab and get also an anti-bacterial cream as it could be a bacterial infection.

Eventually...only with creams...it went away.
I still do not know if it was thrush or if it was vasospasms (I also checked this on-line as I was having terrible pain after feeding) or if it was something else.
Or if it was simply something "mechanical" not working with my breasts.

Wish you good luck.

Hi - I hope all goes/went well with Dr. I'm just sending support (I also am having a nightmare with thrush and have started many a thread on mn about it Blush ).

I totaly know what you are saying about feeling defeated, but keep going, cry away and take each feed as it comes. All the advice I've recieved on MN is that it will get better, I am clinging on to this!

Good luck :)

I feel your pain -- 6 week old baby with a super strong suck and crappy latch here. And a very hurty blocked duct. Just wanted to encourage you that you're not alone.

thanks so much everyone.

luckily, dr took one look at me and immediately suggested oral fluconazole. I think the screaming baby in my arms and the desperate, wild look in my eyes might have had something to do with it Grin

Been trying to work on our latch today as well, which i think is startung to make a difference.

It's not easy this breastfeeding lark, that's for sure.
