BF and periods...

DS is now 8 weeks, and i have been BF. I have already had a period about 4weeks ago, and for a couple of days now have been getting that usual stabbing headache and stomach cramps I get before AF arrives....which means my cycle is regular again.

I thought BFing was supposed to DELAY AF for a good few months, so why has mine returned to normal so quick?

I do have endometriosis - would this have anything to do with it?

Just annoyed really - mentioned first AF post pregnancy to HV, she seemed suprised but not concerned. I also get bad period pain, and not being able to take nurofen whilst bf is not something i look forward to..

I dont know about the bf and periods but I do know that you can take ibuprofen when breastfeeding so dont worry on that point.

Yep, nurofen is absolutely fine. So is paracetamol.

Check the Breast Feeding Network for alist of druges that are safe during bfing.
Unfortunately it is entirely normal for anything to happen wrt periods while breastfeeding - stop, not stop, be lighter, be regular, be irregular....

Yup, it's normal. Mine came back at 13 weeks. DD was still feeding every 2hrs day and night.

Ibuprofen, as others have said, is fine.

oh and sympathies. I am bfing an 11 wk old and was furious when mine started almost straight away!
