She has never ever bit me before, there is blood everywhere, it bloody kills!
How am I going to be able to feed her later? :(
Ouch. Very very ouch.

ow ow ow ow ow ow ow (and another reminiscent ow)

my sympathies - could just be a teething reflex, there's something about it on kellymom I think. Is it any comfort that it probably wasn't deliberate?

I doubt this will happen to you (it hasn't to anyone else I know) but dd went through a phase of doing this and what's more she was systematic about it - experimenting to find out what exact amount of pressure/nipple extending/teeth gripping constituted a bite and what reaction it would get - little madam!

it was really traumatic for me, I felt as if I was playing a game of chicken every time I fed her, and if she hadn't been such a nightmare to get to sleep (and I wasn't such a softie) I would probably have weaned her.

As it was I told her that she wouldn't get any milk if she bit...so she stopped...then had her feed...then bit me! Angry

however I found that shoving my little finger into the corner of her mouth and taking her off every time I even suspected her of being about to bite did the trick and we don't have a problem now.

good luck...with a bit of luck it's a one-off and remember there is always the little finger!

Your DD must be destined to be a scientist!
Thanks for the sympathy. :)

I have been nipped several times inc. a toe-curling teeth on nipple drag last night (she's teething), but none enough to draw blood! Massive sympathies :(

CreepyFunbags · 08/08/2010 16:34

She has mildly scraped me before and nipped a little, but this was a veritable (sp?) bloodbath.

It still hurts now!

CreepyFunbags that's a nice positive spin on it - a scientist...sounds good. Though I do have to admit that in the darkest hours of the night with red-hot pangs shooting through my nipple I did briefly agonise about whether I was nourishing a future serial killer in my bosom Hmm

After everything I went through to give birth to her and get breast-feeding established in the first place, too.

all I can say is that it has permanently skewed those silly "how much out of ten does it hurt" questions doctors ask you. Well if ten is giving birth, and nine is having a set of small sharp pearly teeth clamping into your nipple and s t r e t c h ing, then I guess my earache isn't worth mentioning, really...

hope you feel better soon!

Poor you, I know that pain. Not sure how old she is, but have you given her a new cup? Mine started biting me when he had a new cup with one of those lift out straws, as soon as I'd binned it the biting stopped.

mum2twin100 · 08/08/2010 22:21

I had it too but i said strictly "no!" and took out. Also, next time tried not to pay attention to it even though i found it very sore because sometimes they like to do it just to see yr reaction. My gils did it a few times but then stopped.

sfxmum · 08/08/2010 22:26

oh sorry it hurts

was just talking to my 5yr old about when she did that to me over and over again, but no blood (ouch) and found it funny, she still does
lately she has been asking about when she was a baby

CreepyFunbags · 09/08/2010 12:22

She won't feed from that side today! She looks at the wound, pulls a face, and says "want other one". Hmm, maybe this is going to precipitate the end of BF!
At least for my right breast.
