Anyone using Nutramigen formula?

Hi

I have been BF my LO for 6 months now and everything is going well. Last week she reacted to cows milk in porridge and has been recommended to stay off dairy for the time being. I had wanted to stop expressing milk (I currently do it twice a day) so that I can actually go to bed early, and in that case if we need extra milk e.g. if I go out for the day, would like to give her formula. So we have been prescribed Nutramigen AA.

Amazingly, despite the fact that it smells and tastes vile, my Lo has been willing to take it!

I have been making it up following the 'rules' (70C water etc) but obviously this is a bit of a pain when we are out and about. If my LO could use 'normal' formula, I was going to use cartons.

Does anyone make it up with cooled boiled water and does it mix OK when done in this way? How long can we wait before drinking it after it is made up? I know that these are not the ideal ways to do it but am thinking if my DH were to take out our DD for the day, how he would manage!

Any help would be fab!

Does it need to be made up at 70c (what do the instructions say?)

How about mixing it up at home, chilling it in coldest part of fridge and then warming up when needed - you can buy a flask which has a big cup thing to stick a bottle in. Or there are special bottles that warm milk. etc.

why don't you just continue to breastfeed?

if you HAVE to give a bottle, and the rest of the time she is either breastfed or on formula i would say it would be absolutely fine to just give her a bottle of oat milk or similar.

as long as the vast majority of her milk drinks are bm/formula the odd non-milk milk drink won't hurt at all

I am continuing to breast feed, I just want to know that she will take formula if my DH wants to take her out for the day or if I want to go out for the day. I just want to stop expressing milk and need the formula for occasions when I am not around and there is no expressed milk available.

ahh ok, i would def just use something like oat milk then. it's what i did with ds2 and ds3 who can't tolerate dairy.

i wouldn't if it was going to be every day, or more than one feed a day. but just as a one-off would be fine

I'm on soya. I make it the normal way then keep it chilled it a lined bag using an old bottle that's too small for him now as an ice pack. I then rely on kindness to get a bowl of hot water to warm it up, I haven't had a cafe refuse yet.
