DS 7 1/2 months. EBF (with expressed bottle from DH @ 11pm) for 6 months. No probes taking formula from bottle from 6 months but has always been "easlity distracted", a bit of a guzzler and not huge volumes. Has recently become more and more fussy on the bottle and now will not be held but obviously still hungry so I tried to give him bottle whilst he was lying down in his cot and now he will only have it this way. This seems qt bizarre! Fine at home but not sure what to do when out and about! Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi Mrsnobby, my DD is 9 months and has been doing this for a while. The only time she will take the bottle in my arms is when she first wakes up - the rest of the day she will only take it lying down on the sofa or floor. She's getting really hard to feed and doesn't take much at any one time now (except first thing and last bottle before bed). I also have to distract her by holding a rattle over her head whilst she's feeding. She has been teething, so don't know if its to do with that - guess she finds it more comfortable to lie down, but not sure why .

Go with t as long as he is happy and no sicky.

When out maybe lie him on your lap or in pushchair?

Thanks MixedNutPlate - can put the buggy into lying down position so will try that next time. And mindtheagegap it is good to hear that he is not the only baby with funny habits. It just seems like he can't be bothered to drink milk, he would rather go without than be held for a bottle! Funny little chap!

Mine is the same. We've found a compromise in the bouncy chair or car seat (I believe babies are more prone to ear infections is fed lying down flat). If desperate I can feed him lying on my lap if I let his head flop back over my arm almost upside down!

that's interesting strawberrycake. what makes you say that about the ear infections?

My DD always had her bottle lying down. I assumed it was because she was used to being BF in that position. It never seemed to cause a problem and she eventually grew out of it. Interested in the thing about ear infections. BF babies feed lying down so how can it cause ear infections?

Maybe you should get a new teat? Perhaps it is not as free flowing as it once was?

I was told by gp, I don't know otherwise. Took it at face value...I'll search online..

That?s funny, we thought that it was just our DD that did this, and she was an absolute nightmare and would only take a bottle lying flat on her changing mat. I think it looks like we?re really bad parents that don?t care but it was that or she would have starved! When we were out I used to put her across my lap flat but she does have a bit of a prob with cups now though
