How much milk at 8 a half months?

Hi

My 8 1/2 month old has only been taking a breastfeed morning and evening for a while, although feeding for an hour at both times. He eats solids really well and is on 3 meals a day plus a snack of fruit and lots of driks of water in between. For the last few days he has only breastfed for about 10 minutes morning and evening, although he has still slept right through without waking up hungry. He still eats all other meals well. I am just concerned that he isn't getting enough milk. I have 2 older boys and seem to remember that at this age he should be getting about 600mls of breast or formula milk a day? It always hard to tell how much breast milk a baby is getting, but I wasn't too concerned before as he seems to be thriving. I have been using formula to make up his solids - around 240mls a day, so he get this in addition to breast milk. Can anyone advise if this all sounds OK? How much milk do your 8 1/2 month olds take? Many thanks.

My DS is the same age, and he has massively cut down on his milk feeds in the last couple of months. It sounds like your baby is taking what he needs, as they get so good at feeding that they can take a lot of milk from the breast in a relatively short time. It sounds like you are doing the right things with him, like letting him feed until he's finished etc, and he can tell you better then anyone whether he has had enough milk. It's so hard to tell when b/f isn't it?! At that stage I was feeding ds 4 times a day and I really have no idea how many mls that was. It sounds like your ds is getting enough though. I'm no expert but an hour for a feed does seem a long time at this age. I would suspect that a lot of that time is him enjoying the suckling (fair enough). I think they can usually take a whole feed in 10-20 mins at that age. Anyone?
