As a result, I have to leave Mumsnet.

It's more than an ad, it's a real link between Milupa and this useful and supportive site. I can't give my time to this board any more; it would not sit well with my feelings about the way formula milk manufacturers promote themselves to mothers.

It's been a great four years or so - I have enjoyed the posts and the discussions, and I know (because people have kindly told me!) that some of what I say about bf has helped.

But that's it

I hope Mumsnet thinks again, but I doubt it. I was one of the few who have subscribed (with real money!) to this site (I can't remember when - it might have been ages ago). I know it is impossible to make money from subscriptions to websites, so it's not surprising they have taken this way out of a cash difficulty. But it still doesn't make it at all ethical, and it borders on the illegal, too.

Good luck to all and bye bye!

Tiktok, I'm sitting here with my beautiful, thriving, 14 week old ds feeding happily from the breast. You and others know about our difficulties at the beginning, and the wonderful bf experience we've managed to achieve is in part down to you.

I would hate you to go.

I haven't looked at the Milupa site, but I too feel deeply uneasy about it, especially the bit about the helpline (??!!). Seems very insidious to me.

nannyjo · 23/08/2005 21:41

surely if people WANT to BF then they will and get advice from where they can, an advert won't change that.

I understand that YOU feel strongly about this and you have evry right to but not every one is as strong about it and this site is for everyone.

Hope you don't leave over this.

Annner · 23/08/2005 22:24

I'd simply echo what others have said.

Tiktok, your calm and thoughtful advice helped to keep me breastfeeding through difficult early days. Thankyou.

Yes, I'm posting again with problems (9 months later) and this drives home again how much you will be sorely missed.

The thought of the discussions over marketing strategies at milupa makes my stomach heave.

Caligula · 23/08/2005 22:27

So sorry to see you go Tiktok

alux · 23/08/2005 23:13

tiktok. thanks for all the wonderful advice. i am sorry others will not have the benefit of your wisdom on here.

pupuce · 06/09/2005 12:54

There are so many threads on this topic - I took part in none of it... have nothing to add either.
I too am leaving on Mumsnet - may come back when Milupa's ad is taken off....
I am a breastfeeding counsellor (and doula) and I am astounded at the whole affair. I'll leave it at that

Leogaela · 06/09/2005 20:22

Tiktok, Pupuce - we need you! If you stay around you are not supporting Mumsnet or Milupa, but all the women here that wouldn't have been able to manage breastfeeding without you. Please stay!

Moondog - I am searching out your thread on sitestuff now.

Leogaela · 06/09/2005 20:24

And Hunkermunker - MNet won't be the same without you. Please don't go!

compo · 06/09/2005 20:25

Hunkermunker is definitely still around

Leogaela · 06/09/2005 20:27

I'm not sure if I am a bit behind on what is happening with this. I've been away for a couple of weeks.

dropinthe · 06/09/2005 20:29

Would it not be a kick in the face of advertising if you rose above this and stayed on to give advice to all the mothers that need it?-you have obvoulsy helped a great number of people on this site-people that are now happily feeding the NATURAL way-they need people like you to stay around to support them.

Please reconsider or they will have won!

hunkermunker · 06/09/2005 20:32

I'm still here. MN have said they will not be taking more ads like this, and I'm too addicted to stay away for the duration of it I managed it while they were debating it though and was proud of that - lol!

DIT, Tiktok explained why she can't post again until the link is gone on another thread - will try to find the link.

hunkermunker · 06/09/2005 20:34

Post on this thread which explains further

Leogaela · 06/09/2005 20:35

what I dont understand is that Boots, Mothercare and many other big companies are advertising here but MNet can only get a decent amount of advertising revenue from Milupa?

Leogaela · 06/09/2005 20:39

That's in reference to this thread

Milupa Mumsnet decision

hunkermunker · 06/09/2005 20:40

The cynic in me would probably make too inflammatory a post about that for such a quiet evening as this, Leogaela...

dropinthe · 06/09/2005 20:48

Missed that one Hunkers. How sad but she has to do it,doesn't she?

hunkermunker · 06/09/2005 20:48

Yep
