Milk supply dropped suddenly

Hi

I've been EBF my 9.5 month DS. As he went on nursing strike I began pumping once a day to have a bottle of milk for outings (whilst feeding him at home during naps etc).

Yesterday I noticed that I couldnt express more than an ounce, this morning it was a few drops. My boobs don't feel that full - although I know that's not an indicator of supply, I can usually tell which boob I last fed from by doing that!

I'm using a hospital grade pump.

Any ideas why my supply could have suddenly gone down? I think DS is not satisfied as he woke up three times last night, hungry whereas he'd been waking once or twice. He's on solids and taking them well but not huge quantities so I don't wantto force him. Also he's dairy intolerant so plan to BF for a while yet

I've not had any proper periods, just a couple a few months ago which lasted a day or two. The week before I'd noticed a drop in milk but only for a day which I assumed was ovulation? I'm not pregnant as have tested!

Any ideas? Could it be the proper return of my periods? If so, how long will my supply be low for?

Thanks!

Mine went down before each period (and took me by surprise the first time) for about 203 days? I was back at work and expressing, so I noticed immediately. The babies seem to cope okay, though; I don't remember having to supplement from the EBM stash (I EBF as well)

My guess would definitely be return of proper periods.

Also, 9 months is a sleep regression, so he might not be waking from hunger.

Thanks tortoise. I thought he was hungry as he wouldn't settle for DH only for the boob! We've had a bit of hell already with the 9 month regression - I had (naively!!) hoped we were over the worse........... Maybe not
