Breast sore and warm to touch?

DS is 8 weeks old and slept for a record 5 hour stretch last night. Great. However since waking my right breast has felt very engorged.

DS had fed from it twice (not with much interest the second time) and I have just expressed 2 ounces (gallons for me ) and whilst I feel less full breast is still a little sore and is (I think) slightly warm to the touch.

What should I do? Memory says "feed, feed, feed" so should I put DS to this breast first when he wakes from his nap? Will this possibly prevent any infection or should I get myself to GPs sooner rather than later? Am on steroids so possibly more prone to infection than otherwise?

TIA.

I'd get in a hot shower and try to massage out the sore breast, especially if there is a lump or particular sore bit. Then I'd feed first off that side again when he wakes (maybe express a bit off the other breast too, if he only takes one side). But if that doesn't seem to help, I'd go to the GP, before you start feeling really poorly which is no fun with a newborn Good luck

I had a similar thing happen to me. I tried expressing and feeding but interestingly, the only thing that relieved the pain was to hand express.

Thanks both.

DS is still asleep so might try the shower and hand expressing right away.

How are you now?

Thanks for asking. I think it's a bit better. Still a little sore but certainly no worse.

The hot shower was a great idea, not sure if I expressed any more off but massaging the sore bit certainly seemed to help. Have led with the sore breast at every feed today.

Hoping for another improvement tomorrow.

This happened to me and I had a bath and expressed as much as I could into it - felt like Cleopatra but it did the trick! Then feed feed feed, as you say.
