The Heinz one with a soft sput is ofen popular. My ds3 is 4 and a half months too and he has an Avent one clear yellow and green and a Tomee Tipee one with two handles and a fold down sucker.

He has recently started having water out of these but only a couple of sips.

Maybe he is not thirsty? Is he on solids?

IME you are expecting quite a lot for him to take on both a cup and drink a quantity of milk from it all at once and so young. Perhaps you just need to review quantity and/or frequency of each feed especially if he is just starting on solids. If he is also breastfed I think he would compensate for any lack of formula anyway.

Probably best to persist with one type of cup rather than confuse the issue and one which doesn't require too much suck. DD had the Avent one but didn't really master it until around 6 months. Ds had several ones with 3 holed spout and handles (no suck required.)

Have you tried switching teats on the bottle. My dd likes the ones with fewer holes (Avent 2) and screamed bloody murder when I tried her with the "Variable flow" ones. I think it's because she is mostly breastfed and liked the teats that were more like the breasts (ie harder to get milk out). Maybe the teat that you've been using has gotten ripped and the milk is coming out too fast.
