The last couple of days I have noticed a pink stain in the front of my ds nappy in the mornings. It is only overnight and only when he has slept through for 10/12 hours, he is EBF, should I be worried I thought this only happened with newborns?!

Have you eaten any beetroot? Serious question!

angfirsttimer · 25/07/2010 09:50

Personally I'd go to the out of hours today, but thats just me.

I think you should take him to the doctors, is probably nothing but get it checked out.

DaisySteiner · 25/07/2010 10:02

It's probably urate crystals which are found in urine when it's particularly concentrated (because he's slept through the night without being fed). They can react with the nappy to cause the pink stain.

DaisySteiner · 25/07/2010 10:06

Meant to say, it's probably worth discussing with your doctor whether you should wake for a feed if baby doesn't demand one during the night, but unless he seems unwell I wouldn't go to OOH.

I agree with daisysteiner - my ds had an orange stain one morning. but worth bringing him to the gp this week.

angfirsttimer · 25/07/2010 12:48

Thanks ladies will call the GP in the morning, will just be typical that I am lucky enough to have a baby who sleeps through but I have to wake HIM for a feed!!

the baby is 4.5 months. i cant see any reason to wake him up tbh.

pommedeterre · 26/07/2010 09:06

I think urate can form as a reaction between poo and wee as well - is there poo in the nappy?

angfirsttimer · 26/07/2010 12:30

Yes, always a poo to greet us in the morning!
