Hi
DS is just over 10 months old now and over the last 6 weeks has not really been that interested in his milk feeds (more interested in food!!)and has consistently left anything up to 1 - 4oz a feed (we offer 7oz x 3 a day and use anything left over for cereal etc).

However over the last few days he has drained every bottle we have offered, whilst still being very interested in food and eating everything offered.

Whilst he seems satisfied I was just wondering if we should offer another oz in each feed or whether to leave things be - he is on the 50th per centile weight wise but is up and cruising, crawling and desperately trying to walk (so using up more energy i presume!)

Any thoughts?

I would be more inclined to offer more food rather than formula at that age

Is he drinking lots of water? He might just be having milk to combat thirtiness/dehydration in the weather.

Agree that he probably needs more food at 10 months not more formula. Also agree with japhrimel about the water.

hi thanks for your replies.

He does drink water - i tend to keep a free flow cup handy and offer it regularly and he's quite good at drinking it (when he's not busy letting it dribble out of his mouth which is apparently a great game!)

Perhaps its just the weather - i wasnt sure if they go through a growth spurt at this age.

He does seem to eat loads though (considering he's not the biggest 10 month old in the world!!)- for example this lunchtime we had been out and about so he had:

  • a roll with cheese spread
  • 3 carrot maize snack things
  • 2 sweetcorn rings
  • fruit pot
  • handful of raisons and apricots
  • 2 rice cakes
  • good drink of water

Am i being a bit of a precious 1st time mum?

Aren't we all

He seems to eat really well - much better than mine at the same age!!

Mine also went through phases of glugging milk, when usually she left most of her bottles.

I'd still be inclined to try to get him to eat more given his age - perhaps yoghurt or cheese as a calcium substitute for milk?
