Sleeping through night - too soon or ok?

Ds3 was 8 weeks on Friday. He has been in a pattern of going to bed at about 10-10:30pm, sleeping till 4 or 5 am , feeding then back to sleep till about 8am. (I know I'm really lucky!). This week he has started sleeping till 6 or 7 am. Is this too soon to be sleeping through the night, in terms of the milk supply? Should I be waking him for a feed, or just enjoying the sleep?

I've never had a HUGE supply with any of my 4 babies, but ds3 seems to be the best feeder so far, and the milk does seem to be enough for him. He was a big baby (10lb12), and lost a fair amount of weight (down to 9lb8), but has been steadily gaining - he was weighed this week at 11lb11, so is growing.

What do you think? Thanks!

If he's feeding well the rest of the time I would say enjoy the sleep! My dd slept like that from 5 weeks, I wasn't so lucky with ds! I'm sure someone with more relevant qualifications will be along with more accurate advice so don't just take my word for it

I'd say enjoy the sleep, but then I'm not qualified either

I agree, enjoy the sleep. DS2 generally sleeps 6.30pm until 7am but I give him a dream feed before I go to bed. He has been doing that since 8 weeks. he is a good feeder but he feeds loads in the day to make up for it. I have no intention of waking him but I am not qualified either.

Last night he slept 9:30-7:45!!!! He is a total star! I was fairly uncomfortable on waking up though! He does feed REALLY well the rest of the time - he is by far the best feeder I've had!

(sorry clicked post too early).

Thanks for your advice - I think you're all right, and he is old enough to go through, and I should just enjoy not being up at 4am, because I'm sure as soon as he hits a growth spurt we'll be back to middle of the night feeds!

Sounds good to me. DS2 has been doing 8pm-4am, then a feed and then back to sleep until 8ish most mornings - since about 4 weeks (with the occasional blip).

He is an excellent feeder through the day as well.

Makes life a whole lot easier compared to DS1 who was a "normal" baby and up lots at night.
