Anyone else really sad that they will eventually have to stop BF?

Hi all

I know this may sound crazy. I really wish I could continue to BF forever as I love it so much. I love the cuddles with DD and our special times together whilst she's feeding. She is really calm and we have a lovely bond when she's at the breast. Don't get me wrong, she's a lovely and happy child at most other times, but when she's BF, it seems like she's really enjoying herself (as well as getting a full belly!)

DD is coming up to 5 months old. I love breastfeeding her so much that I'm counting down the months to when I will eventually have to stop doing it, because there will come a time when she will no longer need it and also less importantly the need to return to work.

Does anyone else feel like this? DD is my first, but I feel like I need another DC asap in order to continue BF! Does this sound really really silly?

X

Thanks, everyone, for your messages. Seems like I'm not the only one feeling sad at the prospect of having to stop BF eventually. I will continue for as long as I can and for as long as DD wants to. As with some fellow MNers on here, I did struggle to establish BF at the outset and I even found it difficult to cope with at one point. A bit of perseverance and that all soon changed. DD and I soon knew what to do, and now, everything seems like bliss when she feeds. It's true I should concentrate on continue enjoying the lovely moments rather than count down the months.

Thanks again, all.

Moonface - I felt that too, a bit. But it passed

I've just (48hrs) given up and I'm GUTTED. DD2 15mo, DD1 was 6mo when she'd had enough.

I think I wanted me back; co sleeping meant she constantly bf all night long... I was knackered all the time... well still am actually!

But woe is ME I'm going to miss it terribly.

Hmmm... 5 years 3 months of bf non-stop so far and the youngest is a mere 8 months. As we're planning one more, I have many years to go yet! My eldest stopped just under 4 years old, and my 2 year old is still going. I worked from when my eldest was 9 months, so returning to work doesn't mean stopping.

Yes, I expect I will miss it, but actually when the end of a best part of a decade of bf comes I think I will be breathing a big sigh of relief at getting my boobs back . Right now I may still be under half way through .

Before i had dd i thought i would bf for 6 months. It was hard to start with, but once i was a month in i realised there was no way i was stopping so soon.

I don't know how long i'll go on feeding but i really hope its a long long time
