Hi all,

Please please help as my HV has been really unhelpful and unempathic! I want to start weaning my 17 week old daughter from breast to bottle, if only so i can combination feed: i'm hopeless at expressing and i want to be able to leave her with grandparents occasionally. She has also started waking in the night after previously sleeping through.

I've tried Cow and Gate, Aptimil and SMA ready made milk: she's been ok for about 2-3 hours and has then vomited profusely and lost the entire feed I asked my HV who couldn't advise me at all apart from the fact that she may be intolerant... didn't seem to want to talk to me about anything other than BF.

Yesterday i tried 'hiding' 30ml of formula in the middle of a BF, thinking if i could gradually increase the proportion of formula that might work, but same result. My LO is very healthy and not remotely fussy about feeding, has always gone between breast and bottle with expressed milk no problems.

Going to try little bit of HIPP organic milk this afternoon (lord knows if she gets on with anything sod's law it'll be the expensive one!! but if same result then think i will go to GP... unless anyone has any ideas???

Thanks everyone x

bouncingbean - sorry your HV was crap. They are meant to advice about formula feeding!

Have a look at these leaflets about formula:

for www.babyfriendly.org.uk/pdfs/guide_infant_formula.pdf parents and for HCPs.

Maybe you will get some info from those? Have you thought about changing the bottles?

Thanks tabouleh... will check those out. Just tried HIPP so wait and see! DD normally fine with bottle of purely expressed milk, although she hates having bottle from me... good job i love a challenge, eh? :S x

leaflet link

You can get to them both from here not sure what happened there!

(thanks MrsBadger - I also think the leaflet for HCPs is useful as it gives that bit more info).

my friend's DS had the same... although he did manage the goats milk formula without puking. if she pukes up the hipp go and speak to GP.

A friend of mine solved this problem with Aptamil Easy Digest.

I often find the ready make milk does this to some children especially when weaning. I think because it is heavier than powder. So maybe try powder and mix correctly.
