OMG is that on now

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:36

OK they asked for comments, have snet one
think it may mark me out as 'mafia' though
will it be coming back on?

lolalotta · 15/07/2010 07:37

It's on all morning... some really stupid emails coming in! One woman said she found it "offensive" to see a mother feeding her baby in public.

I am bear from durham if they read it

lolalotta · 15/07/2010 07:37

The word "allowed" really hacked me off, like someone is going to stop me!

my text was along the lines of babies need feeding when and where they are hungry. I refuse to be 'allowed'. If someone doesn't like it that's their problem.

DO you think in the interests of fairness they'll do bottlefeeding in public tomorrow?
No, of course not - the idea is ridiculous - babies need feeding with a breast or bottle when they need it. If a grown adult has a problem with that then surely the baby's need for food/drink come before the adult's need not to see some bare skin near the breast.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 15/07/2010 07:41

'Allowed' is such ridiculously loaded word to use

But GMTV have from for this kind of bullshit.

Can't watch it now as DD will be livid if I break the no-TV-before-school rule (meant to be no computer too but she can't hear that) but will get it on internet later.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:41

Now I've ranted and calmed down a bit I acually don't think the general public does have an issue with it but "debates" like this make mothers think they do - much more than is the case.

tegan · 15/07/2010 07:41

this is rediculous there is no debate it's a natural thing. are they gonig to debate if people should breath in public next.

when feeding ds sat in sainsburys a lady in her 70's came up to me and gave be £20 and said to buy him something nice then she began to cry saying she had not seen a child bein bf in over 30 years and it was wonderful that i was doing it so publicly and that she admired me for that

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:41

I really think they do more harm than good and should be banned.

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 15/07/2010 07:42

Fuck all to do with 'allowed' - the real question is about the right of a baby to recieve the perfect nutrition anyplace, anytime.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:43

oh here we go "as long as its discreet"

yay carrie! woo hoo

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:44

theyre letting her talk for more than 10s - do MNHQ have blackmail material on them?

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:45

Love the way carrie is sticking to the facts instead of joinuing the hysteria

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:46

THANK YOU CARRIE
addressing the "only if it;s discreet" thing

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:47

Oh and btw GMTV

It's at least six months not up to
thank you

lifeas3plus1 · 15/07/2010 07:47

I'm breaking the no tv in the mornings rule to watch it whilst getting ready to go out. I'll probably get angry!

Tegan (sp?). That's a lovely story.

StealthPolarBear · 15/07/2010 07:47

sorry exclusively for 6 mo and then 2 years or more

lolalotta · 15/07/2010 07:51

I've been bf my lo for 6 1/2 months out and about (benches/library/where ever) and have only seen another one other mother feeding in public in my local town in all that time
maybe that's because of stupid debates like this!

OP posts:
TakeLovingChances · 15/07/2010 08:51

I didn't hear the debate From reading this thread I'm glad I didn't have to listen to the nonsense from GMTV on this topic.

I don't understand why other women can be so grossed out about the reality that other women feed babies this way.

There was a recent debate on my local radio station (Radio Ulster) about a women being complained about as she bf her baby in a library. Some of the comments and calls were mad! "Disgusting", "should do it at home" etc.

If DS is hungry, I feed him. End of.

chiccadee · 15/07/2010 09:00

Not seen the programme but grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Love the idea that they should have a debate tomorrow about bottlefeeding in public!

ChocolateMoose · 15/07/2010 09:05

MumNWLondon · 15/07/2010 09:07

I didn't see it but Grrr! Allowed!

The question should have been:

"Should anyone have the right to object?".

anonMum2 · 15/07/2010 09:12

Didn't manage to breastfeed last time and glad I didn't see such a ridiculous debate... just joining in being extremely irritated.

It's great seeing mother's breastfeed in public and I'm also hoping I'd be able to solely BF with my next one, which means BF in public.

tiktok · 15/07/2010 09:39

God, it's so tedious, isn't it? This 'debate' has been done to death. Only a few idiots (some, sadly, on mumsnet - you know who you are!) have a problem with breastfeeding being done anywhere the mother and baby need it to be done.

Yay to Carrie for treating it all as a non-issue, and for refusing to go down the 'yes, as long as it is discreet' road.

And who are the smugtastics who always comment on this issue 'well, I always have a large shawl with me and I can drape it over me when the baby needs feeding' - they won't be so smug when their babies start to object when plunged into heat and darkness and pull the thing off! In my experience, tiny babies don't mind so much but any baby over about six weeks simply does not like feeding under a shawl and why should he be expected to?
