A little reassurance?

So, 1st time Mum... Have been reading this site through pregnancy for virtual hand holding, now moved on to BF forums!

Bit fuddled with this Bf thing... MWs have been through it a few times but Little one has her own ideas. Upshot is, she seems to want to feed every couple of hours as an average...

Sometimes a 4 hr gap, sometimes a 1 hr gap

Sometimes she nods off, sometimes she doesn't... She is producing pooey nappies, she does sleep...

Assume this is all normal and nothing to worry about? She latches on ok most times, seems very content...

Anyway, appreciate any input... have read lots of the topics on this forum and feel better already

Thank you!

She sounds very normal to me - lots of pooey and wet nappies, generally happy - tick !

The gaps between feeds thing - sometimes I have breakfast, and don't think about food until 2, sometimes (like today) it's 10 and I've had breakfast, another coffee, and a packet of crisps and am still thinking about eating. Why would a baby be any different - by responding to her requests for food you are showing her that you eat to your appetite which is a good future habit

how old is she? sounds pretty normally to me. My DS was very structured (his doing, not mine) but my DD was very much making up her own pattern. I found it difficult to tell the difference between tired crying and hungry crying. if they are pooing and weeing then they are getting enough. if they are sleeping then they must be pretty happy. congrats on your LO btw.

That sounds exactly normal.

Another thing about the gaps - CMOT makes a good point, but I would add that those feeds are not just her meals and snacks, they're her drinks of water. When it's hot, she may need to have a few short feeds every so often, like you would have a glass of water or a cup of tea.

sounds perfectly normal! don't listen to anyone who tells you to put her on this side for a certain time, then the other side for a certain time, then not to feed her for 3 hours etc etc. feed on demand, as you are doing and you'll establish a lovely supply and a lovely bfing relationship with your new daughter!
It doesn't matter if you're feeding her and she's not really feeding, just wanting comfort, thats what you're there for! breastfeeding is amazing it cures pretty much every problem a newborn has, except wind!
congratulations by the way!

Blimey that was fast!

Thank you all. I think I knew it was all ok but needed a bit of reassurance from real people as opposed to MWs/ HVs etc

She is very new still, only 4 days.. I'm just getting a head start on worrying...

And, notquitecockney and CMOT, you're right. If I'm a bit thirsty I have a drink not a meal, if I'm a bit hungry I have asnack... Common sense, eh?

Thank you everyone!
