My DH and I are considering TTC again at Christmas. (I have a medical condition that means I have to stop some medication in advance so things take some preparation.) There is some evidence to suggest that BF can be beneficial to the condition that I have & obviously I would be keen to BF rather than go back onto medication straight after the birth. (I would have to BF exclusively) Unfortunately with my DD I really struggled with BF. DD took 5 days to latch at all & it was only sheer determination on my part that got us through the first few days of relentless hand expressing & syringe feeding. She is still not a good eater (nearly 2) so maybe she was/is just lazy! But in my mind the problem was made worse by the fact I have very large breasts & very small, relatively flat nipples. I was very cracked and sore when feeding DD & I don't think this helped. Whist looking into benefits of breastfeeding for me & trying to think about what would be best for me/my baby with the condition I have come accross this. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of using it? How long did you have to use it for to see any results? Would it even help? Would I need to start whilst PG or before PG? Would be good to know if it is worth a try!

i don't have experience of it, but i have heard that it does help draw the nipple out

htat said, people with flat nipples can breastfeed successfully as long as you get the latch right as baby draws the breast into its mouth as it feeds

i would advise seeing if you have any local breastfeeding groups/la leche league etc you could go to so you already have someone to contact if you need help in the early days

good luck!

don't know if this is near you?

bebejones · 13/07/2010 09:54

Yes that is near me! I shall investigate! Thank you!

Having had latch inspected with DD by several people I was advised that I was doing it right, she just used to fuss alot & made me very sore. Plus she was quite small & think it was too difficult for her to get where she needed to get to!!

Just read some more about it, & says should be used in early pregnancy before milk supply comes in.

So some shameless bumping to see if anyone has used this with success before BF! Thank you!
