Book help

Not quite a book of the month, but I have alot of books that I'd like to sell or donate, but my MIL has (sweetly) written notes in the inside first page, such as 'Happy birthday Harry, 5th birthday today 1st May 2022' - what can I do about that? I couldn't really sell them with the writing in and I wouldn't want to donate them with such personal details in them 🙈 - I could rip that page out but then the book would be damaged 🤷🏽‍♀️

If you are donating them I don’t think it’s an issue and unless it’s really identifying I wouldn’t worry . I’m not sure secondhand books that are damaged are worth much if anything at all unless they are first editions etc .

When I buy secondhand books I quite like messages like that.

If the messages wouldn’t actually make you identifiable, don’t let it stop you donating them somewhere.

Unless your surname is included then no one will be able to identify who Harry age 5 is.
It's actually quite sweet to see a message in a second hand book.

Every secondhand book I own has inscriptions like this, some of them quite detailed and heartfelt!

I would leave it in if there is no surname, but I would also warn MIL they were being donated incase she picked one up for old times sake and got offended

What do you think someone could do with the info that Harry was born 1st May 2017 though?

I’ve got loads of second hand books with messages in them.
