Hi all, apologies if I'm writing this in the wrong place. I'm looking for book recommendations. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I'm not feeling that maternal. I'd love to read some books that can help with this. I'm looking for Daisy May Cooper style comedy that shines an honest and uplifting light on motherhood. Any recommendations really appreciated 😘

Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy
I love that you're looking for something honest and uplifting with a bit of humour — it’s such a good way to connect with the messiness of motherhood without the sugar-coating. My suggestions:

  • "The Unmumsy Mum" by Sarah Turner – brutally honest, very funny, and hugely relatable. A great reminder that perfection is never the goal.
  • "Everything I Know About Love" by Dolly Alderton – not strictly about motherhood, but so warm and wise about womanhood and identity, which can be helpful when you're going through big life shifts.
  • "Happy Mum, Happy Baby" by Giovanna Fletcher – more sincere than comedic, but reassuring and real. It focuses on the emotional ups and downs of early motherhood.
  • "Confessions of a Domestic Failure" by Bunmi Laditan – fictional, funny, and gently satirical take on new motherhood.

One that made me laugh but also feel a bit less alone was Why Mummy Drinks by Gill Sims. It’s very tongue-in-cheek but still super relatable. Also The Unmumsy Mum is great for the honest side of things without all the fluffy “perfect mum” stuff.

The unmumsy mum by Sarah Turner and Winging It by Anna Jefferson - I read post of these when pregnant/ post partum and felt like they were written by someone inside my brain!
