Does anyone know what happened to Simon Serrailler 12? Called The Sound of Footsteps. I thought it was supposed to be out by now.

Amazon often list upcoming books with a publication date. Although this is listed it just says currently unavailable.

Idontpostmuch · 19/09/2023 15:31

Thanks @Blackcountryexile I’ve a feeling the series I winding down so we may not get another.

I listen to these, only buy when on offer though. They should have been so much better, he was an interesting character but he's turned into a bit of a sad caricature in the last few books. And if you like an audio book the narrator is poor.

CurlewKate · 19/09/2023 15:38

I'm sure I read somewhere that the writer was unwell? I was hoping for the next one too-even though I agree the later ones weren't as good....

Idontpostmuch · 19/09/2023 16:45

@CurlewKate @DisforDarkChocolate I’ve listened to some but have mostly read them. Was planning to read this one. Hadn’t heard author was ill but that may account for non appearance. I got the feeling she had wrapped it all up with the last book. Yes standard has been falling. Cat drinks more wine with each book so if there are any more she’ll be a complete alcoholic.

She is in her 80s now, she can't go on for ever (unfortunately).

Well, surprised she's still writing and wouldn't blame her for calling it a day, but clearly she had plans for another book.

What does this mean?

Stephen Pacey could never be described as a poor narrator! He's one of the best in the game. I'll listen to a book simply because he's the narrator! Never heard anyone say a bad word about him

Suenamimum · 31/01/2024 09:30

I too have been waiting for this. They may not be the greatest novels of all time but I just love them on audiobook. Steven Pacey has to be one of the greatest narrators. Such a range of voices! The last 2 haven't been as good, repeating themes, but I'm kind of addicted. I wondered if Susan Hill was unwell. Hope not, but I guess The Sound of Footsteps has disappeared.

PinkEasterbunny · 04/02/2024 08:48

I have loved the whole series and am disappointed if that’s the end of it?

Given up on it now tbh...but if you haven't already read the Department Q series by Jessie Adler olsen get on it immediately-you won't regret it.

PinkEasterbunny · 10/08/2025 09:04

I read that there had been a publication date for a further Simon Serrailler book, but it never happened, the author is ill (or something)? But there’s very little info on the internet

Clawdy · 28/08/2025 12:19

Yes, I noticed very little info online too. Doesn't look as if we'll ever see it. A bit like the rumours that there was going to be a final Shardlake novel, but it never happened as C J Sansom was ill, and sadly died. But for a while, there were adverts for the novel online, obviously not real.

wizzler · 09/09/2025 14:12

Loved this series, especially the early ones

JohnHH · 19/09/2025 21:33

I pre-ordered it months ago thinking it would land this summer, and then the release date just disappeared from the listing. Pretty frustrating because I’ve read the whole series and was really looking forward to this one. Hoping it’s just a minor delay rather than something bigger.
