I've got one credit, have downloaded so many I didn't get on with I'd like help with my next one. I have loved....The Martian, The Midnight Library, The Help, Where the Crawdads Sing (maybe I read that one...), The Beekeeper of Aleppo. I've recently tried a Jojo Moyes (awful), Davina Menopausing (awful), I have lots of science/factual health/parenting ones I dip in & out of. I'm not fussed on Crime. Help!!

I've not got Audible anymore but when I did have it I can remember staying up until Dawn listening to the Help.

Have you tried a Liane Moriarty?

despondentatwork · 03/05/2023 11:56

No-but I will! Thank you.

Have you read any Taylor Jenkins Reid? Or Gabrielle Zevin? Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow is wonderful!

Throwawayme · 03/05/2023 12:02

Not a recommendation but if you start a book and don't get on with it, you can return it and get your credit back :)

Yeah although they can be a bit twitchy about that — don't do it too often would be my advice.

It's not exactly a recommendation, but if you initiate a book and find it doesn't resonate with you, you have the option to return it and receive your credit back. :)

American Dirt is excellent. Always listen to the sample as sometimes the narrator can put you off a book!

cunoyerjudowel · 11/04/2025 17:57

With audible it’s all about the narrator - the cavendish and walker novels are well done

AudiobookListener · 11/04/2025 18:18

Assuming you liked the "Robinson Crusoe" aspect of The Martian, you could look at Castle of Water by Dane Hucklebridge or even Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O'Dell which is currently free.

Maurice and Maralyn might float your boat (sorry for the pun, folks, I can't resist).

Crawdads has a "surviving in nature" vibe as well doesn't it? Maybe look at "The Vaster Wilds" by Lauren Groff

I wish audible didn’t send me to sleep 💤

Eastcoastdog · 13/04/2025 15:48

For a wonderful narrator and great story you can’t beat A Fine Balance.

But yes Liane Moirarty for light entertainment

Use the timer. Says the person who didn't do that and slept through 7 chapters of A Drop of Corruption last night. 😴

Open your player while a title is playing.
Select the Timer icon.
Choose a pre-set time or create and save a custom length.

Eastcoastdog · 13/04/2025 19:39

Yep-click on bookmark and timer. I’m normally asleep within 15 minutes so just go back go the bookmark and have a recap the next day!

GoBackToTheStart · 13/04/2025 19:47

If you liked The Martian, then try Project Hail Mary. Same author but different narrator. Ray Porter (the narrator) is great and IMO the book is better in audio than classically read (makes sense when you listen to it!)

thecatneuterer · 13/04/2025 19:52

If you aren't wedded to fiction then A bit of a stretch by Chris Atkins is brilliant. It's a prison diary and is wonderfully written and narrated and is both amusing and fascinating.

BirlinBrain · 13/04/2025 19:59

Second the suggestion of “Project Hail Mary”. Also, do you try the Audible Plus Catalogue? You can add your chosen genres to the search, and they’re free.

MadamDicey · 13/04/2025 20:05

Kirstin hannah, the women , I've not listened to it but can say it's a fabulous read

Thank you, I will try this. Glad it’s not just me who has slept through the chapters…

I listen to Jodie Picoult’s Small Great Things repeatedly on audible. Noma Dunezweni narrates one of the main characters, I’d agree with a pp that the narrator is very important. One of my favourite books, lThe Poisonwood Bible, is a great read, sadly the narrator on the audible version ruins it.
