Has anyone read this book? I've just got to the end and it's almost like the ending is missing. Nothing gets wrapped up. Is this the case and it's just an awful ending or has there been a glitch in the download?!

I have read it and really enjoyed it, I can’t remember the exact ending as it was over a year ago but you did find out what happened, who did what and why? I remember enjoying it and since read the hunting party by her as well

You find out who and why but ends with the wrong person being arrested and no explanation as to what happens to them and to the actual murderer. Or are we just meant to assume that the arrested person went to jail as their punishment for previous indiscretions?

I really enjoyed it up until the end!

I enjoyed The Hunting Party but I thought The Guest List was a poor copy of the same story really, same theme. I found the end disappointing and skimmed my way to it.
I have just read The Sanatorium by Sara Pearse which is yet more of the same.

I agree. I had think hard to distinguish the Sanatorium from The Guest List.

Both were instantly forgettable.

I haven't read The Hunting Party but I might give it a swerve.

Is this the one with the wedding on the island? What bugged me was the groom wades into the sea but doesn't seem to be wet, or no one notices he's wet afterwards? Read it a while ago.
I like the premise, but everyone being awful is draining.

BuenoSucia · 23/08/2022 17:28

clearly you are my people! I have all three and have read the sanitorium and the hunting party - neither story has stuck with me.

fruitstick · 23/08/2022 17:32

I couldn't stand Blood Orange either.

I liked the Hunting Party until the resolution which I though was unbelievable. Decided to give the The Guest List a go and although I remember very little specifically (and certainly not the ending!) I thought the whole thing was pretty ridiculous - the idea that the bride and groom would ever have chosen that location, that the reception could have been pulled together that quickly etc. The Sanatorium was more of the same - fine for a beach read but if you stopped to think about any of it for a minute you realised it was a lot of nonsense!

TheWeeDonkey · 23/08/2022 17:48

I quite enjoyed The Hunting Party as it was the first of that type of book I'd read, the do get quite derivative quite quickly though.

The Guest List was ludicrous and I found it really annoying towards the end.

There's a similar The Chateau? Where they're on a ski holiday in a French resort that starts off quite promising and then goes completely nuts! Quite entertaining though

The greatest load of tripe I ever read, and I have read some sh*t in the name of book club.Grin

AubadeIsIt · 16/09/2022 17:02

I too was disappointed with the ending!

PumpkinDart · 23/09/2022 20:01

Yep agreed I didn't enjoy it, parts of the plot (as already mentioned groom wading out to see) were just silly and the characters weren't endearing.

I had the exact same thoughts! They were all so Similar I found myself getting them muddled up

WGACA · 23/09/2022 20:20

I thought both books were pretty much the same too.

I know this is a zombie thread, but books are books however old...

Just read this. Can anyone shed any light on how Freddie was at school with Darcey, ?Aoife's son? Yet Freddie and Aoife presumably similar ages?
I can't quite get my head around it.
