Loved The Rosie Project and I haven't read many other comedies. I'm going through a tough time at home and need more light-heartedness in my life.

The tent, the bucket and me. Based on Emma Kennedy's unbelievably awful experiences on her family's annual holidays when she was a child.

Anything by David Sedaris!

hagsrus0 · 23/03/2021 03:48

Doreen Tovey's cat books, if you like cats and donkeys.

King Solomon's Ring by Konrad Lorenz if you like various creatures, likewise My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durrell.

Jennings Goes to School by Antony Buckeridge if you like little boys.

Talk of the Town by Ardal O'Hanlon (of Father Ted fame) is hilarious for the first half and then sort of devastating.

Standrewsschool · 10/04/2021 07:59

‘Frank n Stans bucket list’ is comical, light-hearted and fun.

Three Men in a Boat. J K Jerome. One of the funniest books ever.

Also The Ascent of Rum Doodle - can't remember the author.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. Jonas Jonasson.

Also

The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady
by Edith Holden

palapenojopper · 10/04/2021 08:31

Tho is going to hurt by Adam Kay.

Which is a diary of him as a junior dr. Some very (very) sad moments in the book but it is overall hilarious. The author is now a comedian.

Tittybittybangbang · 10/04/2021 08:36

Tittybittybangbang · 10/04/2021 09:28

Oh yes, Bill Bryson a walk in the woods was funny.

ODFOx · 10/04/2021 09:32

Bill Bryson: Thunderbolt Kid
Tom Sharpe: lots of them are great but Wilt makes me laugh out loud.
Isaac Asimov's Azazel short stories.

NumberThirtySix · 10/04/2021 09:44

Nina Stibbe's fiction:
Man at the Helm
Reasons to be Cheerful*
Paradise Lodge

I think this is the order they come in but you could read in any order and * is my favourite.

Marian Keyes is my favourite palate cleansing author in between heavier stuff. Although she is brilliant at discussing the weightiest subjects with a light hand.

The Humor Code: A Global Search for What Makes Things Funny

Love In a Cold Climate.

Also loved the Adam Kay book mentioned above - surprisingly well written and full of heart as well as wit.
