Louis de Berniere - Birds without Wings and loved it.

I loved Captain Corelies Mandolin (but don't get me started about the film!!) and then struggled with his other stuff which I found very wierd but this one is good.

I shall get it and try it! Captain Corelies Mandolin is one of my all time favourites. I tried another wierd one set in Mexico or south america and gave up.

Thank you!

I loved that book - if you find yourself in South Turkey you can visit the town it's set in as well which was very moving (a town near Fethiye). I find his South American ones way too violent, but Birds Without Wings is fab.

3/4 of Mr Pip, which I was bored with, then horrified. Won't be reading anymore. Before that 'The Ballad and the Source' by Rosamund Lehmann - vg

Hubby's read all his stuff - started with Capt Corelli back to The War of Don Emmannuel's Nether Parts, The Troublesome Offspring of Cardinal Guzman - must get this for his birthday.

ps what is the book of the month for July & Aug?
