The Leys vs Shrewsbury

Looking at a boarding yr 9 for extremely bright science girl advanced but socially unpolished and needing a lot of work ethic and executive function support. Which is better? Need a school that will push her strengths in stem but also not hold her back due to weaknesses. Needs alot of attention and the best pastoral care possible as can be fragile. - Oundle not an option!

not heard the Leys and Shrewsbury ever mentioned in the same breath as very bright/academic/science etc
both L and S are lovely schools but not known for academics. Maybe Leys more pushy being in Cambs, I don’t know.
oundle the obvious choice but if it’s not right for you then maybe Rugby (also proper full boarding like Oundle though and v similar type of school). Leys weekly/day. No idea about Shrewsbury. Good cricket school I think!

Missed the Oundle app. Not even considering waitlist apparently.

@ByRedTiger I don’t know much about Shrewsbury but they are very good when it comes to US universities particularly scholarships like the Morehead Cain. They are life changing opportunities for bright students and they seem to serve their brightest really well. I wish we had looked at it for DS .

OP has already asked about Shrewsbury or Gordonstoun for their DC.. I've already pointed out Shrewsbury takes a wide academic range and is not necessarily massively academic. We live nearby and the reputation for girls' pastoral is pretty mixed for boarders.. but Op wasn't interested.. I already suggested Rugby and Oundle..

Why boarding and not day school,
as a matter of interest? Thank you

No not creepy.. admire your resilience..

Met two friends last week.. one with day pupil girl at Shrewsbury who is fine and said the school is not full next year so I'm sure if you want to go they will open you with open arms.

Also met another friend who like us did not send their DD. Her friend's daughter went as a boarder and got pregnant. I'm sure it happens at other schools too but as a parent she wasn't impressed.

sounds like she would struggle emotionally at boarding school, from what you’ve said. Badminton school in Bristol?
