Wells Cathedral Boarding Vs Day Pupil life insights needed

I am mom of 2 boys who start senior school (Year 7 and Year 10) at wells cathedral in sept. One is in general musician program and the other will be specialist football program. Both me and my husband have hybrid working arrangement in London. I have to go in every alternate week or once in 3 weeks and husband same frequency. We would prefer flexi boarding as younger one has never boarded before (although older one has), but we are unable to find rentals in wells that is to our liking. We found a house that is an hour of a drive - but wondering what the schedule for the boys be if they were to commute 2 days in a week from that place? My question - what does a day to day look like for a day boarder ? Do they stay back often after 6 ? How are the homework demands ? Do they have to go into weekends , if yes, then how many times?

I can't answer your questions, but I know that there is a Boarding School board here on Mumsnet, perhaps try to ask you question there? There might be more knowledge about this.

Hi, OP. We've moved your thread to our Boarding School topic now, as the PP suggested.

Hi OP- someone on the music thread has just flagged this one. I have a dd in the lower sixth- she’s been at wells since year 10 and boards.

She’s a specialist musician so I don’t know how helpful her experience is but it’s a full on day - often an early morning practice slot, evening ensembles and music lessons and lunchtime ensembles too. I sometimes look at her timetable and she’s scheduled from 730am to 8pm.

however I believe she’s unusually busy and it’s her own fault for wanting to do everything.

Saturday has morning lessons for older ones - they can’t be skipped. I think there are matches in the pm but she’s not sporty so not really sure. Sundays they are supposed to be in for cathedral in the evening if they board.

dd loves it- but i get the feeling that everyone’s experience is different at wells- it’s a very bespoke kind of school. I think you’ll get more help on the Facebook group for parents!
