does anyone know if Kingham Hill would suit a rugby-mad but very academic DS for Y11 entry? He’s bright, motivated and completely obsessed with rugby (county level), so we’re trying to find somewhere that balances strong academics with serious sport. We’ve also had some financial issues recently, so I’m wondering what they’re like with bursaries or fee assistance and whether it’s even worth applying. Would really appreciate any recent experiences on the academics, rugby set-up, and general pastoral vibe.

It has 50 students a year and is co-ed so unlikely sport will be that strong unless they are actively recruiting on that basis and it doesn't seem they are- maybe you know differently. Often these things are just a numbers game- the rugby team will be significantly stronger with 100 boys to choose from than 25.

Academically- bit hard to say as they equate their Btecs and Ctecs with their A levels. I'd describe it as academically broad but that kind of depends on your child. if they are massively self-motivated and don't really need a peer group then might be ok. If they're a bit of a spirit level, then I'd say no.

Finally is it a M-F school? If so are you looking at weekly boarding because otherwise that might suck quite badly.
