What volume of bags does your 6th former take to boarding school?
we're currently north of 250L and DD is struggling to accept cutting down might be beneficial.

Does that include duvet, pillows and mattress topper?

That seems like a lot then if it's just clothes and personal stuff. A couple of recent threads have suggested not taking too much as not that much storage in. dorms/ shared rooms - DS has a 80L duffel plus his bedding, guitar, tuck box and school bag.

However, if she has a single room then I can see it would be feasible to take more.

She needs to cut it down now. There is no point in getting to her accommodation and having to go through all her stuff to decide what you are taking straight back home with you. I've certainly known for younger pupils the matron being in attendance and making child and parent cut down the excess clothes and send home with a very embarrassed parent. There is unlikely to be loads of space for stuff and certainly at my nephew's school it was a bit of a tease point when they left of 'do you remember how much stuff D brought the first term??'

Presumably you could always send her stuff at a later date if you got there and found there was loads of space and she desperately needed xyz?

I'm mainly here to see what the norm is nowadays.

A million years ago everything was expected to fit into a trunk, which is about 180l, or two suitcases which is about the same. That was excluding bedding, tuckbox, winter coat, hi fi back in the day. I've blithely assumed that that's all someone could ever need, so packing DD up for uni will be straightforward. I suspect she will see it differently and I'm here to see how wide I am of the mark!
