Hello!

I have hair similar to afro hair. I am not black myself so I have really struggled to control it.

What products do you use when straightening your hair?

I straighten and 1 hr later my hair is a mess. Please help!

You could try eco gel. Go to a market black hair shop. Have you got curly hair?

I had a look at eco gel and it looks more like something you use to curl or just flatten at the front? Would it be okay to use it on hair once straightened?

I find it hard to describe my hair. The curls are not like afro hair. They are bigger curls but it just seems to gets really frizzy and sticks out everywhere. (A bit like Monika in that friends episode in Barbados)

I’ve been bullied so much for it through out my life. I really wish I knew how to control it?

Olaplex No5 leave in conditioner and a good heat protectant for straight.
" and a daily refresher, something light for curly.
Silk bonnet

Eco hair gel is cheap so try it. Or Aussie products. You could try the cantu range or the Olive hair range again from the markets. Aussie products can be found in Boots or Superdug.

Honestly my advice to you would be to stop straightening it and follow the curly girl method (watch a few YouTube videos on it)

Your hair clearly doesn't want to be straight so work with it rather than against it

@PrawnAgain I tried that following someones advice and I use cantu curling cream.

My hair just starts sticking out all over the place. It won’t hold unless I go to the bathroom every 30 mins to put more product in.

I don't rate Cantu products, I much prefer Shea Moisture. Have you tried them?

Mine is like this - very very textured, even though I'm white. But it doesn't need the same products as genuinely coily/afro hair.

My advice to you is to look at the curly girl method. Join some FB groups for curly hair - my favourite is called Sensible Curly People. Stop straightening (it will make things worse!) and work with the hair you've got. It will take some experimenting to find the right products.

Cantu is usually too heavy/rich in butters and oils for hair that isn't truly coily. It doesn't suit my hair at all and makes it puff out and feel horrible. I also need glycerin free products. I use Jessicurl shampoo/conditioner, Boots curl cream, Boots curl mousse, Tigi Curls Rock Amplifier, and Curlsmith Hydro Jelly (not all at once!). It's taken me a long time to find the right products but now my hair is amazing and I get compliments on it all the time.

Also, get a silk bonnet for sleeping in. It was the best thing I ever did for my hair!!
