Hi Black Mumsnetters...

As the title says really. Has anybody here moved out of London due to concerns over crime? And if so, where did you move?

Not specifically no, although I do have two boys and I'm v mindful that their experience of London will be different to mine, but given they are getting a v middle class upbringing I'm more concerned around external influences and wrong time wrong place scenarios. But have got quite a few years before I really need to worry about that....

I haven't but I have a girl and there are certain parts of London I would never consider living in even though I know white people with children who live in those parts. Their children go to state schools.

I have discussions with family members over the years and a few of them have moved to the Home Counties due to cost and were then glad they moved because they have boys.

The funny thing is that the younger men in my family who were brought up in London could have got into trouble but had their heads screwed on right so avoided it. I also know a couple of people whose jobs are/'were involved in dealing with county lines and not all the kids are Londoners....

Yep did so about 10 years ago to the Home Counties, now further afield. Have 2 boys and I saw this coming. Eldest is still pre teens. Personally am born and raised in London, but DH and I agreed that we were doing for the DC. Not having my kids in such a life. My DB moved a while back too after uni. He and his partner (English) have no intentions of moving back to London as they also have a son. Our grandparents made decisions for our best by moving from the Carib, and now we have to make the best decisions for the DC. Not one regret.

No, in fact I’m staying put because of all the opportunities London offers. London has the best schools in the country, best employment opportunities for my kids and myself and my husband and an array of amazing neighbourhoods. Wish it wasn’t so expensive but I feel confident it’s the best place for my children in the U.K. I went to boarding school outside of London for a while and from that experience I wouldn’t subject my black children to that ever.
