Wig - lace around hairline

Sorry for the ignorance, but what's the point of lace around the hairline of a wig?

I appear to have messed it up when trying to trim it.

Isn't it easier to just buy one without lace?

Lace is meant to look more natural with a blended hairline.
You may find some help on YouTube to sort it out.
