Avlon Texture Release

Does anyone have any experience of having this done? I’m considering having this done at Jennifer Cynthia’s salon for the first time as I’m getting tired of managing my hair.

I’ve been natural my whole life and haven’t relaxed my hair before. My worry is that the Avlon Texture Release seems to be very similar to a relaxer. I’ve read that your hair is meant to revert back to it’s natural state after 8 or so weeks but is that really the case?

I have 4C and have attached a recent pic of my hair. I usually have braids in but my edges are starting to thin so I’d like to get my hair a break. Thoughts are welcome!

Just in case this appears in Active, this thread has been posted on the Black MNetters board. I’m actively wanting to hear from other Black posters and their experiences only, thank you:)

I have no experience of this procedure, so I can't help, i'm afraid.

MinnieTruck · 17/03/2024 12:09

@LadyKenya ah no probs, thank you anyway!

I also meant to say that I have 4C type hair

The results look nice if you are after a sleek straight style.

But your hair will not be more manageable than it is now because there is always regrowth, whether it's relaxed or texture released. But unlike a relaxer, your hair will shrink or revert if there is any moisture or heat in the air.

Unless your hair is bra length, I wouldn't count on wearing your hair curly (one of the supposed benefits of texture release) as it essentially looks like a round ball and is very aging (IMHO).
Could you do twist outs or get your hairdresser to twist your hair for you instead?

I don’t plan to have my hair out as I prefer it all back in a bun anyway. If the texture release makes it that bit easier when styling then imo it’s worth the money! Even if it only lasts for 8 weeks. I think twist outs will look ugly on me🫣

Hi,

(I am sharing my own experince and personal view point)

Your hair needs some tender loving care with science and not leaving it unloved with braids. No amount of quick fixes can fix your hair if you do not have a great hair routine. ( This is said with the utmost respect, kindess and love Sis)

Please consider using Olaplex NO 0 & 3.

THIS IS A BONDING TREATMENT FORTHE HAIR. There is no protien in the treatment.

Direction Take time to put your hair into four braided sections.

Place Olaplex No: 0 all over your unwashed hair strands and work the formula very well into all strands of your hair. Allow to sit for 10 minutes. Do not wash out and place Olaplex No: 3 all over your hair, again working the formula into each hair strand.

Note: If you are high prorosity keep both formulas on for 20 to30 mins
If you are low prorosity, keep both formulas on for 30 to 1 hour with a cling film wrap/ plastic bag on your head then sit under a low heat hairdryer to open up the hair shaft to recieve the formula.

Try to wash your hair standing upright to give your hair directions and not to confuse/ tangle your hair strands.

Gently wash your scalp with the pads of your fingers only. working the lather into the scalp for 1 full minute in each section. Repeat your wash again if you feelthe saclp is not clean enough.

Deep condition your hair after for 20 minutes, wearing cling film or plastic bag under the hairdryer. wash all of that out. The lastly, pop some leave-in-conditioner and Blow dry immediately on a low setting.

Do not oil or grease your scalp. Allow your scalp to breath and remain as clean as possible in between wash days.

Wash your hair the same as above once a week or every 10 days for a whole month.

If you can drink Feugreek tea every day (If on medications, Consult GP, if allow the herb tea) then try to do so as the herb is essential for hair growth and hair health. Your hair will begin to feel amazing within the month you will see and feel a significant quality increase with your hair. You will begin to love your hair agin because it will be on its journey to maximum health.

@RitzyBrixton I love the username😆

Thank you for your post! My hair is well managed as I go to the hairdressers every month. I do a variety of styles such as cainrows, braids or I’ll have a silk press. I just wanted to do something different to my hair. It’s either this or I cut it extremely short and just wear wigs.

I love my hair. I’m just bored of it!

I think my hair is 4D😆 and I have a lot of it. Im good with styling it but no matter what - UK climate does not suit my hair. Wonder treatments/routines do nothing for me. My hair is my hair. It is a bit more manageable when Im back home tho, different climate/water etc. But I mostly braid it here. This sounds interesting OP.

I found this YouTube clip. If you decide to go ahead please report back, hope it works well for you

MinnieTruck · 20/03/2024 21:08

@DeeCeeCherry I’d love to see how you style hair! Maybe you can come round and do mine because I’m practically out of ideas😂🫣

Thank you for the video, I actually watched that one when I was doing my research. I’ve booked to go to Jennifer Cynthia’s salon (the one that I’ve linked) in a couple of weeks. I’ll definitely come and update the thread once it’s done!

Hey there. Just bumping it back up to see if you've gone through with the texture release.
How was it? How has it lasted?

Got annoyed with my natural hair and relaxed it, I saw no end to the humidity and couldn't manage it. I cut it to a bob too.
And I'm at the "now, what's next " stage, considering texture release :)

Mangoe · 06/07/2024 15:39

I have done the Avlon texture release multiple times. I do it my self. (Please don’t follow me and do it yourself) however I only use the release lotion because I am only looking for manageability. I apply the lotion and go under heat for 30 minutes, wash it out for the 3 minutes and use my normal brand of leave in conditioner and styler to flat twist my hair. The curl pattern is elongated slightly but not much and it is easier to manage when washing. I will put a to the manual that came with the products when I bought it giving different ways out using the product. You don’t have to do the flat iron option if you just want manageability.
