Meghan Markle on the toxicity of social media

This is the Black Mumsnetters forum, if you aren’t Black or a person of colour then please consider before you post.

I was about to post this on the link I started about non-racist chat forums but I see that that has now been hidden so MNHQ can have a look at it. Meanwhile any number of toxic threads populated by the same posters time and time again are allowed to keep running. Fascinating isn’t it?

re the article I remember the cyber bullying of a pregnant Meghan and it was disgusting. There were plenty of awful threads about her on Mumsnet too, though the usual suspects have rewritten history to claim it was all roses and sunshine and they welcomed her with open arms.

Britain's Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, attends the "Keynote: Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen," during the SXSW 2024 Conference and Festivals at the Austin Convention Center on March 8, 2024, in Austin, Texas. (...

I was cyberbullied while pregnant, says Meghan - BBC News

The Duchess of Sussex criticises the "seemingly endless toxicity" of social media while speaking at a festival.

I literally just saw this and have posted a thread re the deletion. It is madness that it was deleted and the MM full to the brim of poison stay up.

PinotGrogio · 09/03/2024 08:46

I really don’t understand the reasoning behind our threads getting deleted while the most vile ones are left to stand. Another was started just this morning about “Me again”. And that’s really not meant to be goady and a blatant attempt at a pile on?

Cyber bullying is vile. I really don't know how you stop it though apart from not reading it.

skullbabe · 09/03/2024 09:28

So I will say that someone tagged this forum in one of those threads - and the moment I saw that I knew that a. we would be descended on or b. reported. It looks like option b. happened.

PinotGrogio · 09/03/2024 09:36

Yes, I have no doubt it was reported @skullbabe. But I have reported many many racist threads and posts (not all MM-related) and though HQ claim they’ll “look into it” the posts and threads don’t get deleted.

Me too. To be fair, the thread is back up now but I'd like to hear the reasoning behind leaving threads that are reported multiple times for racism up but removing threads by black women discussing how racism impacts them. @mnhq

yeah the hatred for her online always ramped up during pregnancies and after their birth. Its vile and its disappointing its a lot of women doing it and also being nasty to each other
